Lobos play in the Pit.  It’s an intimidating place. Court level is like almost 40 feet below street level.

UNM started recognizing bball as a varsity sport in the late 19C.  Between them, NMSU, and UTEP, you’ll get a ton of college basketball history from the southwest.

they won a ton of games in the 1990s, going on several 20 game home win streaks and at one point, won over 40 consecutive in the mid-to-late 1990s.

you think you’re tired of the NIT? Lobos have played in it 20 times.

they came into the Don Haskins center, top 20, one time and I was there when UTEP upset them in front of a sold out crowd. Still one of the greatest CBB games I’ve ever attended. Totally electric and what I hope we can experience in Denton one day.

it doesn’t hurt that UNM was ranked and the UTEP base wasn’t too far removed from watching their team get to the S16.

Do you think Andy Kennedy is on the same level as Richard Pitino?

New Mexico is definitely a more prestigious coaching position than UAB.

No opinion on any Pitino comparison.

I think Andy’s heart is very invested in UAB. He’ll be pulled away eventually, but I’m hard pressed to believe it’ll be for UNM.

Pitino went 8 years with a .360 conference win rate. Kennedy's conference win rate was never that low. It was .510 overall at Ole Miss.

You're right.  I'm biased against him because of UAB rivalry.

A balls move would be to hire this dude away from Birmingham. That kind of thing would get some contributions.

It would probably take in excess of $1.5 million to pull him from his alma mater.

Boohoo. I drove around this ridiculous fvcked up campus the other day. Some of these street contractors should be paying for this $hit. I can’t believe the condition it is in. Expect more.

Yeh go on over there. That’s exactly what your face will look like when you see it.

That's funny considering Hodge's new contract is reported to be around $3M?

The point is, I don't think we would or could pay that.  We paid McCasland $800k and he actually won in the tournament.

According to the 24FY financial report, the basketball head coach Salaries, Benefits and Bonuses paid by the University was $847,747.  No detail was provided on how that number was divided between the three broad categories.

In the same financial report, from 2023 to 2024, Admin Overhead increased by $2,288,882 on a base of $4,083,277 for a 56.56% YoY increase.  I have no idea what goes into Admin Overhead, but we now have $6.4M going into that bucket.  If I'm looking for money to spend, I'd look there.
