Adams would be very interesting. Boynton is intriguing--he wasn't terrible, but they just couldn't get over the hump in a conference that was usually the best in the land during his tenure there. Absolutely no to Rodney Terry.

I think he's too old, 69.  These days you have to be social media and portal savvy. 

His HC record in DI is only 87-115 and fired from both places he was HC (T.Tech and UT-Pan Am).

Now he was 108-40 in DII (West Tx A$M) and 233-54 at JC, plus 100-39 at NAIA.

just listened to the McCasland interview on the ticket from yesterday, I think we were lucky to have hired him and think that Tech is going to have to back up the Brinks truck in his driveway soon. His career might just be getting started.

He was fired from Texas Tech due to a controversial Bible reference. He made the Sweet 16 his first and only full season there.

UT Pan Am was 30+ years ago. He was very successful everywhere else.

I know he's old. I'm only suggesting him because he's a proven winner who could be here for a few years and groom another young coach. This is an important hire and that Sweet 16 Tech run was just 3 years ago. He's still very much in the game. Had he not been fired for the Bible verse controversy, he'd probably still be winning at Tech and we'd likely still have McCasland.

So you're saying Bible verses deprived us of a deep tourney run?

He didn’t get along with Womble, who was one of their biggest hoops boosters and has the court named after him. That’s not who you piss off in Lubbock. He got canned. 

To put it into UNT perspective, imagine the Green Brigade leader not getting along with the Dept. of Music??

Do you think Tech is not his final destination? Seems like he lines up really well with their culture and they can afford him. I honestly see him there to end his career. That is unless he starts tanking, but I don't think that will happen.

Just think it's kind of funny how that situation kicked off all these chain of events that have us where we are today. 

Yeah, year 2 wasn't great but if I remember correctly, Pop Isaacs quit after the controversy. He was one of their leading players so it certainly affected things. Worth noting his first season, they won 9 more games than the year before with Chris Beard.

I'm not saying Adams is perfect. I just think he should get a strong look. From our budget situation, we're either going to pay for a somewhat unknown commodity and hope he does well, try to pluck somebody from a low-paying school somewhere, or promote from within. Why not the known winner and make a splash?

The only school I could see him going to is Baylor. That said, if a huge school offered to double his pay, he'd probably leave. Money will almost always win.

Yeah, I agree with the Baylor choice. Money wise, I honestlu think Tech could match any school out there.

Working on a long-term contract is not the same as getting a big raise and extension. To me it just means they're hearing whispers and are trying to lock him up before he takes another job. Not seeing anything that a deal is done.

Cross had a reputation of being difficult at UTA.  There is no way Jared is bringing a guy like that in.  His next hire will be just like the last, a guy that McCasland, Wren, Hodge etc all approve and give their blessing to.  Jared has to cover his bases in case he gets canned for a fallback VP AD job somewhere that pays well.  Remember that the average lifespan of a D1 AD is only 7 years.  RV was the exception at 15.

Jared has done a lousy job with communication, marketing, and getting students and fans to games. 

Luncheon-gate may have not been all his fault, but he should have found an alternate home site rather than let both men and women's teams play an NIT away game. 

This coaching hire will go a long way toward my confidence or not in him.

Luncheon-gate was not his fault, however his response to luncheon-gate was.  You can't just shrug your shoulders on such a monumental blunder like that and say, "well that's just not my department."  What exactly did he try to do in response when SMU lost their NIT game and when did he do it?  We need a FOIA on that or Vito needs to get off his ass and do his damn job.
