Groce is who I mentioned in another thread. I'd love to have him BUT he makes what Hodge made here. We'd probably have to up pay to 7 figures to steal him.

Bryce Drew makes about $1.5 million, twice what Hodge earned here.

I've read Wardle also makes more than Hodhe did.

Huss is unknown but considering their arena, he's probably out of price range.

The only options on your list are Henserson and Smith unless we up our game a bit.

Surely if we add some chips and salsa along with the fajitas we could convince Drew to take a pay cut

I would have liked Pastner. But I have a lot of  knowledge of his background and followed his career. He is a bball guy. His dad ran the local leagues, select teams and he played for Kingwood High School. But unlv just grappled him up this week. Not sure what they paid

It has to be a coach that keeps the philosophy of defense and recruit from winning programs. Hodge did a hell of a job recruiting this year. The free throw % has to be a record for UNT. GMG

Okay but why? Likely the entire staff will not be here next year and the players will be gone too...

Why keep the Mccassland/Hodge mentality when none of the pieces no longer exist?

Another option is Tim Janckovic.  He is semi retired but might be willing to come back for the right amount of money.  He is also familiar with UNT and the challenges here.

We fired him. I think he is done with basketball.

We do have an identity, which is hard nosed defensive basketball. I would love to keep that and get rid of the rest, which is very little support from students, administration, or alumni. The Troy coach did a great jog at UTA under the same set of circumstances but might not want to revisit them. Coaching hires for the most part seemed to be based upon the buddy system. Our AD's job is to fine some buddy who knows how deep the water is.

Scott Cross has done great things at a university like ours, as well as another university that is near our level of play in the SBC. And he knows what its like to coach on a limited budget and to not have the best things, unlike Huss at High Point or Drew at GCU, both of whom are probably at the top ends of their conferences in spending. We, obviously, aren't...and that's before Faculty Fun and Fajitas became a thing to screw BOTH basketball teams at UNT.

Before Mark Few got the head job at Gonzaga, he was an assistant there.  His boss was Dan Monson who also began as an assistant at Gonzaga.  Monson got his start under Dan Fitzgerald...who is the godfather of Gonzaga basketball.  Fitzgerald never had the success that Few, or even Monson, did obviously...but he's the one that really got the ball rolling on their way upward to what we think of now.

Hire from within if you have the guy.

Do we have the guy? Hodge was a no brainer but what about the staff now?

This search must be extensive and wide. We are now a very good and very desirable mid-major program with 45K+ students located in a top 4 media market. This search should not be taken lightly, and I hope Mosely doesn't eff this up.

We are and should be a basketball school.

Anyone like Josh Howard? I think he could be a great recruiter at UNT but I don't know anything about his coaching abilities or style. I think it would be worth giving him an interview if he was interested. Could be our version of Penny Hardaway in Memphis.
