Can we come up with a top 5 list of replacements?

Jace Herl, Johnny Estelle and Andre Shaw would all be on my list of possibilities.  I would also throw a bone to Scotty Cross the old UTA coach that got shafted.  Any other ideas of who we could get that would be a good replacement for Ross?

I would have liked Pastner. But I have a lot of  knowledge of his background and followed his career. He is a bball guy. His dad ran the local leagues, select teams and he played for Kingwood High School. But unlv just grappled him up this week. Not sure what they paid

Before Mark Few got the head job at Gonzaga, he was an assistant there.  His boss was Dan Monson who also began as an assistant at Gonzaga.  Monson got his start under Dan Fitzgerald...who is the godfather of Gonzaga basketball.  Fitzgerald never had the success that Few, or even Monson, did obviously...but he's the one that really got the ball rolling on their way upward to what we think of now.

Hire from within if you have the guy.

Way out on the limb here, Fran Fraschilla was a finalist before we went with Grant. I like his view of the game. Matty B would’ve made sense before getting the SFA job.
Gotta wonder if calling Rodney Terry would do anything?

Would these coaches be interested in UNT for the prestige or the fajitas?

Coach Hodge came over with McCasland back in 2017.  From 2018-on, we began seeing an identity form.  One of tough, grinding, defense, and a deliberate/slow pace-of-play.   It was widely known that this defense-first identity was because of Coach Hodge.    Coach Hodge was here for 6 seasons under McCasland's tutelage.   When McCasland left, it was plainly obvious who the replacement should be.   It was the easiest hire Mosely has ever made.

I don't see the Coach Hodge equivalent on the current staff.

If we hire from within, it will be an absolute gamble.   I would much rather find a winning HC at a low/mid-major D1 school who wants to take over a winning program in the American.     A guy like John Groce at Akron, who has shown with 2 different schools that he can win a lot at the mid-major level.  That's the kind of candidate we should be looking for.

That, or a top assistant from a winning Big12/SEC school... but I'm really gun-shy about this route with how our previous hire like this went.

Groce is who I mentioned in another thread. I'd love to have him BUT he makes what Hodge made here. We'd probably have to up pay to 7 figures to steal him.

Bryce Drew makes about $1.5 million, twice what Hodge earned here.

I've read Wardle also makes more than Hodhe did.

Huss is unknown but considering their arena, he's probably out of price range.

The only options on your list are Henserson and Smith unless we up our game a bit.

Another option is Tim Janckovic.  He is semi retired but might be willing to come back for the right amount of money.  He is also familiar with UNT and the challenges here.

I was hesitant to suggest him but man, we could do worse. He was good here and familiar with $$$ being the main recruiting tactic
