I get that. I hope we hire someone who has been a HC before…at any collegiate level (JUCO, D2, D1). This is a big hire for us. We have to get it right to keep this train rolling.
Yes....UNM gets great support. And the MWC has been a 4 bid (at least) league the last few years.
But then I remembered....the MWC is about to be broken up.
So am not sure how great the UNM gig is any more.
Luncheon-gate was not his fault, however his response to luncheon-gate was. You can't just shrug your shoulders on such a monumental blunder like that and say, "well that's just not my department." What exactly did he try to do in response when SMU lost their NIT game and when did he do it? We need a FOIA on that or Vito needs to get off his ass and do his damn job.
Jared has done a lousy job with communication, marketing, and getting students and fans to games.
Luncheon-gate may have not been all his fault, but he should have found an alternate home site rather than let both men and women's teams play an NIT away game.
This coaching hire will go a long way toward my confidence or not in him.

At the University of North Texas, enrollment is on the rise, and staff say their success comes from a forward-thinking strategy focused on innovation and adaptability.
At a time when colleges are more competitive than ever, UNT is growing fast. Staff believe it's due to their ability to evolve, ensuring students have access to resources and programs that prepare them for a constantly changing workforce.
"It's really putting us on our toes and making us move as fast as we can to keep up with the market," said Brian Sauser, chair of UNT's supply chain management program. "Our education system is changing, and that's a challenge. But it's a fun challenge."
In recent months, UNT has invested in programs like artificial intelligence and data science, aiming to give graduates an early edge in their careers.
