I'm kinda wondering if these canned, generic responses from Jared are him biting his tongue hard.   I bet he has a lot more frustration to let out, but that certainly would not be good for his performance review.   
Now, how hard he fought to make the game happen before being told to fall in line... we don't know.   If he rolled over quickly, then yeah, he needs some of the blame.   If he really went to bat for his basketball teams and was eventually told to "shut up & sit down", then I respect that, & don't really hold him accountable.

Ultimately, I really think the guns here need to be turned on Keller & higher-up admins.

Again, great leaders view their job security as secondary.  And until leadership actually happens and fault is claimed or directed, guns should be spray fired...

Absolutely on the school administration but Jared is having to take the fall as the face of athletics. Jared is a basketball guy through and through, and I’d bet is just as annoyed by this as we are

Jared knows the job requirements--public complaints about lack of support from the BOR and administration is an ender here.

It is what it is. Every other university of our size in the region uses athletics as their primary window to the school. It brings in loads of cash, too. But we chose Music and arts and cheap education.

I don't know much about President Keller.   But I know the Athletics Director was elevated to a VICE PRESIDENT role under Smatresk, so Mosley answers directly to Keller.
If Keller is a hard-ass, and communicates to Mosley to "shut up about this, it's a hard NO, we're not touching the luncheon!", and Mosley turns around and tells the whole truth on social media, he can kiss his job security and any bonus/raise goodbye when the heat turns on Keller.    Put yourself in Mosley's shoes... what would you do there?

Now, if the convo was something like:
Mosley-"Hey Harry, we might have basketball games scheduled at the Pit the week of 3/24-3/28, we good?"
Keller-"Well, we have the Staff luncheon that week, so you may want to make alternate plans."
Mosley-"OK."
... then yeah, Jared would need to be taken to task.    I just doubt he'd roll over that easy.

This is not the type of decision that needs to have their consultation, but even if it was, a vast majority of them are NT alumni now.  I bet they'd see the value in ensuring both the staff luncheon and home basketball games VS OKSt & Troy all happened.    Maybe I'm wrong though.

I agree, but maybe the BOR needs to set the expectation moving forward with Keller.

The breakdown in not having our home basketball game in our home arena needs to be communicated. Otherwise, they're all to blame. And if Jared values his job over doing what is right then it's just another bullet point in why he needs to go...

98% of the university either loathes the existence of athletics here or flat out don’t care. We are the 2%, those of us on gmg.com. They would get barbecued for doing anything for that 2% over the wishes of the 98%. Thats their consequential action decision’s impact. Keep faculty happy, keep students happy, and keep Denton residents happy, or try to keep the 4000 people happy that attend a basketball game.

It sucks, but it’s because we all have to realize that the Gigantic majority of UNT alumni, students, faculty, administrators, and the local citizenry cannot stand us.

Sure seems like a waste of time and $$ to have an athletic department at all. Why don't they just drop athletics all together? Surely that's money that can be spent elsewhere.

They don't because enrollment and exposure would plummet. and they know it. So instead of getting rid of it, or going all in and getting behind it, they do just enough to be mediocre. And we sit in this perpetual state of half assery...

However to a point made earlier, Baker built this department up after RV laid the foundation. Build it up into a little kingdom, get unimpressive people in to run it, build the resume and an AD can use it to move on. As uninspiring a job as our current AD is doing, he will more than likely use it to move on to a bigger job. 

Quite a scam they have going on over on Bonnie Brae...

 

And the kids that are doing the real work and put together a great season get to go to Oklahoma to play the quarterfinals of the NIT and the die hard fans that support them can suck it and watch on TV.

Keller should learn from her.

Former UNT President Gretchen Bataille used the exact same phrase about 20 years ago.  Yet she ended up being the driving force behind the hiring of Todd Dodge and Shanice Stephens.

Pretty much every modern college president knows the importance of athletics, but that doesn't mean they are capable of making decisions that will advance their institution's athletics.
