OP is correct. That is the posted attendance # from ESPN. If you wanna say the actual attendance was higher that’s fine, but ESPN did post that attendance number.

It was obviously higher than that, but it was again reported incorrectly. Last week they said it was a mistake by someone at UNT.  How does that happen again is the question.

If the students got in for free, that's probably right for the NIT.  Some coaches in the past have bought the tickets for the students so they could get in for free, but if we're still just letting them in during the tournament - they likely don't count them as attending since the NCAA gets a cut.

OK State could have been a sellout.

doubtful.  I don't think UNT has ever sold any major athletic event out.  I am blown away at how loud the Super Pit gets at times with half full.  I would love to see that place sold out, but doubt I ever see it.

you are correct! that game was standing room only.

My mom went into Labor with my brother at that game (born just after midnight on the 23rd).  She stayed till halftime before Pop got her to leave.

On TV, it looked to be about 80-85% full lower deck and maybe 10-15% upper although there were very few shots of the upper levels.  From those that were there, does this seem to be about right?  That would be about half capacity which makes ~4700 seem close.

It was funny because as I was bouncing around a Buffalo Wild Wings in Salt Lake City, I watched the screen to see if their Hail Mary went in. The tv guy lost the shot and we missed the final second. My only comfort was still seeing the crowd going crazy and the team storming the court. But weirder things have happened this is March Madness. A delicious win.

What game sold out? I was at the NT v DePaul game in the early 80's. I believe DePaul was #1 in the country.  Attendance, IIRC, was announced as 9100, about 900 short of capacity.

Coach had asked for a sellout and said every 1000 people was worth 1 point for NT.

Always thought that was the largest crowd for a NT MBB game.

I recall I was under the Hustle Stats scoreboard in the upper deck when, for any other game at NT, I was sitting within a few rows of the floor in section 105 or 107.

I was at the smuT game and I sat on the steps towards the top of the arena, great game and atmosphere.  We had about 17,000 enrollment then, it is over twice that now and we can only get 4,700 to attend a playoff game, not good. We won that game with smut, double overtime.

Looked good on TV. ESPN box shows 2661 attendance. WTH??

Does seem like something funky is going on with this year's NIT attendance numbers.

In 2022 we had 3,386 for Texas State and 4,866 for Virginia.

In 2023 we even had 4,308 for Alcorn.

Just an eye (and ear) test from a TV viewer 1,700 miles away, but 2,138 for Furman and 2,661 for Arkansas St, just seems significantly underreported.  In some other thread there was mention of a mistake.  Fine, but if there was a mistake and it's known a mistake was made, is it going to be fixed?
