it’s perhaps mildly conceivable that Hunter could still somehow leave the Wave for the newly-vacant job at AAC rival North Texas. Coaches have followed denials with exits in the past, and Tulane has seen several notable figures exit for other jobs in the last few years, including football coach Willie Fritz (to Houston) and AD Troy Dannen (to Washington; he’s now at Nebraska).

if you enjoy seeing mid-major teams and underdog programs have success, the NIT has played out in your favor. No, there were not many power conference teams represented to begin with, but each of the teams had to win three games to reach the semifinals and the four mid-major schools left standing did just that.
The NIT's updated bracket has something the NCAA Tournament could never fathom
You’re good, man. I started at UNT in 2001. I think this will soon be forgotten about….it can’t happen again, though. I’m just glad we won. The backlash from a loss would have been miserable for Moseley and company.
That's actually a thought worth kicking around:
Bring in Avery then:
- Hire a GM and accompanying recruiting/personnel evaluation staff to keep pace with the rest of the NEW college basketball world.
- Hire/retain a defensive specialist as an assistant coach to run the defense (I'm looking at you Andre Shaw! Seen you in the TBT, definitely ready for a bigger role).
- The only thing that speaks just as loud as $$ in the transfer portal when it comes to getting players is, "Can you get me to the league?" and he checks that box in several BIG ways.
My vote, if I had one, would be for Scott Cross, but if you want to make a BIG splash in the portal, this may be a way to do it, and let's be real: this new age of college basketball comes down to what players you can get more than it ever has before and with NIL and the portal, that's not going to change anytime soon (or ever really!).
I'd go a step further if you went with Avery and look at adding Josh Howard to the staff; there's your potential coach-in-waiting who can develop bigs/wings at an NBA All-Star level.
