Still...if IU was interested, that means he can probably get a better gig than WVU in the future (and I'm not dogging WVU, they have a really solid tradition in basketball).

I would love to keep him for a few more years and whichever current players have eligibility next year.  But Seth Littrrell stuck around and then got the axe shortly after.  That felt dirty to me.

Ross would be a homerun hire for Wren at WV. But Wren doesn’t have enough power at WV to hire someone with Ross’s resume yet. WV boosters are going to want a more accomplished head coach than Ross currently is. Too bad for them, because Ross style can win in any league and is especially good for a school like WV with fewer resources than it’s peers.

I hope Houston keeps winning, because they give our style legitimacy.  Our style with top tier talent and drawing huge crowds and so many eyeballs.

I was.  What I mean is if you are offered more money because you are rightly or wrongly attracting attention, sometimes you should take it.  Loyalty goes both ways.

He was extended/paid for his accomplishments to that point.  He was fired for lack of accomplishments by that point.   It goes both ways.

I hate contributing to this SL derailment, but want to say what I heard: pink slips were ready to be handed to SL the week leading into the UTSA game.  Then we somehow beat them (weren't they ranked #24 or 25?), and they chose to let him ride one more year.

That's what I heard, anyways.

In context, it isn’t so black and white.

If what I heard is true, those pink slips were ready even in the face of a four game winning streak.  We were recovering from a horrid start with a ton of momentum.  Then we beat the #23 Roadrunners.  A ranked rival.

 

in retrospect, it’s easy to see how it didn’t work out and say it was wrong, but in the moment I can understand what they were thinking.

It’s hard for hodge not to be wanted. Yeah he hasn’t won any hardware. But what he has done is nothing short of a miracle. This is why I wanted to lock him in longer and at least make others pay more should they come knocking.
