6-7, a lot of wins but not a “championship ready” team.

There wasn’t a game, outside of Memphis, where I would say the team across from us just had a better roster…yet we found ways to drop games (mainly because we have no “go to” guy and have minutes long offensive comas).  Wright could go off for a bunch of points against bad competition, but he was silenced when we played teams that could make him a focus.

Put Brembaugh (sp?) from Tulane, Lindeborg from UAB, Mashburn Jr from Temple, or even Spears from UTSA on this squad and we win yesterday.   Wright, our leading scorer, is 9th in AAC scoring…the next highest is Lorient at 24th

Looking at our season on the whole, wins and loses, we had a successful year.  I was not happy with our out of conference opponents, save High Point and McNeese (and I didm’t like them at the beginning of the season).  We lacked a “pedal to the metal” mentality and rarely really put anyone away.  Too many offensive droughts.  Without a NIT bid, I give us a 7.  If we do well in the NIT, an 8.  A conference championship should always be the goal.  Anything short is a disappointment.

7-8. Frustrating to only really see 8 guys play although that seems to be the “norm”. It’s hard to tell if the Portal and the NIL have also affected my view. I don’t really have any true interest in the players since they will most likely all be gone. Short of winning the conference or going to the dance or making a deep run in the NIT every season the way the rosters have been the last few years it’s difficult to feel connected. Let’s hope for a final four or better showing in the NIT. Keep the program moving forward, but let’s get and retain the players.

At times, I felt like this was the best "team" we have had since I have been closely following Mean Green Basketball.  We could beat anyone and the players never got rattled even when down double digits.

But then we lost to utsa.

Sissoko scored 27 points, Wright scored 42, and we had Lorient.  Massie, Floyd, Jossell, and even Newell were fun to watch and I loved how close they were so quickly.

7-8?

24 wins

Could be an 8-9 with a good showing in the Crown or NIT.

Screw the Crown. Sick of more and more post season tournaments that try to cater to the “big boys” Big Dance and NIT at this point should be it. I love our CBI run but at this point 2 64 team tournaments would be much better for everyone.

6.5

As usual the team was strong on defense, however the team never found that primary ball handler to lead.  At times the team had some serious unforced mental mistakes.

Same 8 guys playing all season, no floor leader/captain, same streaks of inconsistency, poor offense, and turnovers.

Failed to take advantage of a home-game Tournament location... again.

The Tourney will probably move to Memphis.

We have the following losses and people are saying this is a "6"?!?!?

I agree that yesterday's game was a total let down, but the overall season is NOT a failure.

7pts  McNeese - Tourney bound
4pts  Ut St - Tourney bubble
5pts  HPoint - Tourney bound
4pts  Memphis - Tourney bound, top 20 team
4pts  UTSA - BAD LOSS
3pts  UAB - Tourney bound if they win today
5pts  Temple - BAD LOSS
10pts  UAB - Tourney bound if they win today

Yes. 6. A 6 to me implies at least with our standards that we’re good but we’re not there yet. Nothing wrong with that (yet)

Which of those teams not named Memphis should we not expect to beat?

If we only had lost to Memphis, UAB, and Utah State our team would be sitting in chairs this afternoon surrounded by family and donors as our school name gets called for an at large invitation. Each and every game is just much more meaningful for mid majors.

High Point University, Mcneese State, nutsack, and temple ruined our at large dreams. IF you got HPU and Mcneese at home and win those games then we might have been able to afford the nutsack L. In this scenario, we wouldn't lose at temple to close out reg season. Just more to the point of playing AT Mcneese and AT HPU was and is very  dumb. That's bad scheduling, and that bad scheduling could be seen as season ruiners for the NCAAT or bust people that are out there.

Something I'm chewing on: if we are perpetually 20-25 wins, without championships, only one-and-dones (NCAA/NIT) are we okay with that and keeping Hodge indefinitely, or do we call it after 1 or 2 more of these (hypothetically) and start looking for someone else?

Probably too soon to dig too much into that, but I worry it will be the case if Hodge doesn't figure out some more offense.  Either with the team/scheme, or just find an individual that gets us over the hump.

Final 0.02: I want us pushing hard, trying to figure out how to get to the S16.

8…. Nice to see we can finally recruit a big man under the basket that is productive. It’s un fortunate that the only way we get to the dance is win the conference. We have a great coach especially when you look at who he had to follow. GMG

10. I didn't expect much at all this season due to all the previous personnel losses. The team incredibly overperformed and won second place in the AAC conference and battled in the tourney semifinals. I am very proud of our basketball team and will enthusiastically support them in the NIT or whichever postseason tournament they attend.

Sorry, I know everyone's despondent right now, but I am still shocked how well this team performed throughout this season.

Outside of Memphis, none of those teams make the tournament unless they win their conference. I'm not trashing McNeese or High Point but they won the Southland and Big South. Good for them but they aren't world beaters. Just the best of a bad conference.

Giving a 6 is not a shot at our program but if you score rate this season a 7 or higher, what would you have rated a team that won the conference auto bid but lost in the first round of the big dance? What about a team that made a run in the big dance?

Truth is, we finished 2nd in the conference regular season and lost in the semis of the conference Tourney. In other words, we won nothing. A 7 would have been at least making the conference finals. Winning the auto bid today but losing in the first round of the big dance would have been an 8. A run to the sweet sixteen (week 2 of the NCAA tourney) a 9 and anything better a 10. I'm not trying to set expectations too high but I'm also not going to give our season rave reviews for doing ok when we're capable of better. This program has won 20+ games 6 times since McCasland took over and hasn't had a losing season in these past 8 seasons. A 24 win season is fun but without meaningful March basketball it's all for nothing. It's time to raise the bar a bit.

Yes they performed well but against a team with a pulse or competitive guard play they faltered. It’s remarkable what Hodge did with a roster of little talent from the outside looking in but according to Hodge himself the expectation within the program was to win the conference and we failed to do that.

Hodge is hungry for more and pissed for falling short. I am too.
