North Texas should own the St.Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Dallas.  It’s an event that is made for us.  First, it’s the correct color.  Almost everyone in the parade and watching the parade is wearing green.   Second, it’s in our own backyard.  We are the hometown university for the DFW so we don’t have to introduce ourselves to anyone.  We’re on the heels of a Mean Geeen bowl win (?), and our championship men’s and women’s basketball is in the midst of another winning season.  The Green Brigade should March, the cheerleaders should cheer and the North Texas Dancers should, well, dance.  Why aren’t we involved, in charge of that is this easy event with high visibility ??

Good luck with that.  The school can't even find enough effort for it's own Homecoming parade.

green brigade isn't in session this semester.  might not be that easy to get those kids back into it.  it's a fall semester class.  most music majors have moved onto concert/lab band/solo endeavors for the spring.

What per cent of the Green Brigade is made up of music majors?

Having never been in marching band ensemble, I most likely don’t have any idea, but I would think it would be fun to march down the street in Dallas to a cheering crowd.  Many of which are UNT alums.  How about the Basketball Pep Band on a trailer ?

PS…When is the last time the Green Brigade marched in any parade anywhere ?

I would estimate about 75%?

In the Maurice McAdow era, it was 100%. Most were candidates for higher level ensembles......including the Lab Bands. 120 members with 5 alternates, And they made as big a sound as our bloated 400+ GB.......and played at a much higher (quality wise) level.

To give you one example, I was in attendance at NT/SMU (Hayden Fry era) game at Texas stadium. A time out was called and WHAM! the band broke into a very lively 40's era tune that they abbreviated to coincide with how long a time lasts. Here is the tune being played by the Les Brown orchestra......

It was the first time I had ever heard the tune so I didn't know the name of it. Well, a few years later I was listening to a station that featured Bid Band music. They started playing this Les Brown tune, and my first reaction was "oh, so that's the name of that tune". My second reaction was "Damn, they're playing it too slow......pick up the tempo".

The North Texas Band's "time out" version was MUCH BETTER than the Les Brown version.

They marched at the St Paddy’s Day parade in Dublin a few years ago (2022, I think), so it’s possible for them to do it.  Just need the right motivation.

I knew it wasn’t a Homecoming Parade.

It was probably more sustainable, inclusive, equitable, neurodivergent, diverse, and pansexual friendly than our antiquated PC (Pre-Covid) parade.  Our students won't stand for anything less... and also won't stand at sporting events either!

What era was this?  70s?

*from wiki

Maurice Clark McAdow (17 November 1904 in Greenville, Illinois – 20 August 2001 in Denton, Texas) was an American conductor, trumpeter, and music educator (with high proficiency on woodwinds) who served as director of bands at the University of North Texas College of Music for 29 years, from fall 1945 to spring 1975.[1] The concert bands under his direction were acclaimed for performing a wide repertoire that exhibited advanced levels of musicianship commensurate with a major music school. The marching bands under his direction were known for innovative and colorful halftime shows. Since the mid-1940s, the College of Music had been, and still is, among the nation's largest music schools. Due to the size of the music school, his marching bands were filled with an unusual number of music majors, sometimes exceeding 90%.
