I'm not sure I agree.  Our OOC was pretty solid this season.  Our home schedule was pretty crap might be a valid gripe.  Either way, we had teams on our schedule that are in the wheelhouse of who we need to be scheduling and beating.  Good to very good mid-major programs, with a couple of P5 programs mixed in.  If we go 2-1 against the trio of Utah St, McNeese and High Point we are in the discussion for an at large bid.  Instead we went 0-3.

The scheduling is not the problem, imo, unless you want to say we need to get more of those games at home instead of at neutral site tournaments.

Kind of the same issue with our women's team... a good, solid team that struggles to win against very strong, high-level competition (South Florida loss ... still very proud of the ladies).

We do need to figure out how to win games against the Utah St, McNeese, and High Points of the world.  Seems we are a "consistent go to" person away in most cases - the player that puts the team on their shoulders when the team is having a bad shooting game.  Maybe Atin Wright becomes that player during this AAC tournament!

A big reason I believe we won't get past uab in the semis is namely due to Atin Wright. He's semi efficient offensively, and he's not a distributor. He does his damage from 3. In tournament basketball guards win games at the rim, not shooting 3's.

As a glass half full guy, I would say he could be the reason we DO get past them. We have seen his potential when he is on.

The key will be our post players. If they are effective inside and force the double team, Wright will be open to hit the 3 ball.

Doesn't matter who we play, still need Jossell and Floyd to hit enough to keep defender's honest.

I understand what you're saying.

Also, our D will be very important. If we hold UAB/Temple under 65 I like our chances. If we don't, I hate our chances.

I agree but if BLo and Sissoko can command double teams that opens up our offense so much more. Maybe we can even get 6-8 points out of Newell. Defense, as always, will be the key for us. Got to stay out of foul trouble. GMG

Looking for a bracket, I ran across this from USA Today.  It will take a lot to win the tourney, but this is pretty disrespectful for the second place team that only lost by 4 on the road to Memphis.

American Athletic tournament favorite

It’s Memphis, then a large gap, and then everyone else. Maybe Alabama-Birmingham can sneak up and top the Tigers after losing twice during the regular season. North Texas stubbornly hung around in a 68-64 loss at Memphis in early January, playing the Tigers to a draw before being undone by a weak shooting performance from deep. Based on how things unfolded to this point, it would be a surprise to see anyone other than Memphis celebrating on Sunday afternoon.
