I actually believe the AAC Conference Tournament Champ won't be Memphis.

I'd guess that it will us, UAB, or Wichita State.

If it's us, it'll be us beating Memphis in the final. From recent history, the semifinal game against UTSA/UAB scares me to death. But if we could win that game, I'd like our chances against Memphis a lot.

this team could win it all or lose the first game, who knows which team will show up from game to game. If offense gets going it will be good run, offense goes cold, team will be sitting at homes watching the NCAA and NIT

I think at a minimum we make the NIT no matter what happens in the AAC Tournament.

I am predicting UNT in three as far as the AAC Tournament.

I see our quarterfinal game as a W.  A matchup against UAB in the semis is a total tossup, but maybe they get upset first.  It's never good to look too far ahead in a tournament setting because chaos can and will happen.

I honestly would not be surprised if we declined an NIT invitation. Three straight years... everyone involved with UNT is tired of the NIT instead of NCAAT. I could actually see them opting for the CBI to gift the team a quick week in Florida over the AD potentially having to market three more home games.

There is a new 16-team post season tournament this year in Vegas that is trying to unseat the NIT as the next best option.

As for our AAC Tournament chances, I'd say 50/50.   We are not dominant right now when we need to be.  Our offense is stagnant and we kill ourselves trying to run the clock down then either take a bad shot or shot-clock violation.  Long streaks of no offense in many games.

Yes, we only have 7 losses this season, but 6 of our wins are by 4 points or less.  We keep opponents close... so they think they have a chance.

I'm curious how the CBC will fare. That would be a cool location as well but when it was announced it seemed that tournament was going to rely heavily on the bad power teams.

Between the NCAAT, CBC, NIT, CBI, and CIT, there are a lot of postseason spots. We will undoubtedly have one somewhere.

This team was picked to finish 7th and lost 5 really good players in the portal. Coming into the season, if someone would have predicted that we would go 23-7 and finish 2nd in the conference, we would have said they were crazy. This team has flaws but has earned the right to keep playing regardless of the outcome in Ft. Worth. I feel like we have a good chance to win the AAC tournament but will still be proud of a great season and won't be mad about an NIT bid. Continue to build the brand name. Get to Dickies Arena Friday and GMG!

When did we get so high and mighty that an NIT bid is beneath us? Post season basketball builds the brand name and culture. It helps in recruiting players in the portal. Guys want to come play in a winning program.

Thank you. Not sure why we should ever talk down to being able to play more basketball. We aren't Duke...........  yet.

Another aggravating thing is there is no good site with a live AAC tournament bracket. It's annoying.

Can you link to a good example from another conference bracket? I want to see what you're thinking.

No kidding.  God forbid we qualify for the NCAAT three years in a row and they grow tired of that.

Man, I'm so confused right now.

I would never grow tired of the NCAAT as long as it is still the pinnacle. However, another NIT does nothing anymore to grow our brand or culture. The NIT's once-great reputation is now depleting, with the selection changes and championship not at MSG anymore.

The NIT does not pique the interest of unengaged alumni. Around the league, opposing fans will poke fun at our "NIT merchant" status. And me personally, I am choosing to travel to Austin/Waco/Norman/Fort Worth if the women make it to the NCAA Tournament over going to another men's NIT game.

To put it another way: the NIT is becoming the men's Frisco/HOD Bowl. Our football program has not accomplished anything greater since that UNLV beatdown and it shows with our postseason attendance. We went from 38000 fans on NYD 2014 to being outnumbered 2 to 1 by TXST fans in our own backyard ten years later.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of those 5-8 teams makes a run.  UNT has been hot and cold, but they just had a good look at Temple, so they should have a good game plan going into their first game assuming its against Temple.  The possible match up between UAB/UNT could almost be a toss up, UAB plays later Thursday night and that could be important.

The program need to be in the best tournament available to them.  Because this team will most likely need to do some major recruiting again this off season.

The NIT isn't anything close to being the HOD Bowl.  I don't think people realize how tough it even is to get into the NIT.  There are over 350 D1 schools.  You basically have to be in the top quarter to make it into either tournmnent.

There are like 40 Bowl games...over 60% the schools that play DI football make one.

Making the NIT is like...making the Gator Bowl or something.  If somehow we ended up in the Gator Bowl that'd be the biggest deal the football team had ever accomplished.

Right.   These arguments about "NCAA Tournament or bust!" is like saying "CFP or bust!"    Look at some of the programs that are being prognosticated to the NIT at the moment:

Tell me y'all wouldn't love to get a crack at the Longhorns/Ponies/Horned Frogs/Tar Heels/Villanova/etc... in POSTSEASON PLAY.

One of the craziest takes I’ve read on this board.

Why are we even talking about NIT right now?

Fans - some want NIT

UNT Basketball Players - "We really have some fans that think we are not good enough for the NCAA Tournament?"
