My girlfriend works at Carrollton ISD and just found out her part time teaching gig has been terminated due to declining enrollment in not just Carrollton but also the region.

It got me to thinking, will this end up affecting UNT enrollment at some point as well?  Sure enough I did find an article about this and yes UNT is declining sadly.  We had to make 8.5 million in cuts.  It just seems like all public entities are dealing with layoffs as of late.  My girlfriend and I both are not at all interested in working in the private sector so that is not an option for us.

"I believe this is a short-term issue," McPherson said. "We think there's reason to believe that enrollments will go back up. ... The enrollment drop mainly is at the graduate level, mainly at the master's level."

McPherson said faculty can help attract prospective graduate students to their master's programs.

The financial outlook called for a new view on budgeting.

"We're about a billion-dollar-a-year institution," said Keller, the new leader of the Denton campus. This week marked his first address to the UNT Faculty Senate, a body that represents the priorities, needs and concerns of the teaching ranks to the administration and the Board of Regents.

"At this point, of course, we have a little over 46,000 students," Keller said. "We've been using historical and incremental budgeting, and that makes it hard for us to focus resources around strategic priorities. It makes it hard for us to budget for contingencies."

Keller said he has charged the university's chief financial officer with developing a charter for budgeting.

"And we've assembled a project team, a steering committee and a technical committee around this project to develop and implement and do a strategic budgeting process for the university that would be much more transparent and give us the ability to align how we're budgeting with our goals for the university," Keller said.

And then there is this:

Institutional Property Advisors Brokers Asset Sale for University of North Texas Student Housing Gateway at Denton

Institutional Property Advisors (IPA), a division of Marcus & Millichap, announced the sale of Gateway at Denton, a 228-unit, 696-bed, purpose-built student housing asset located near the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton, Texas.

“Enrollment at UNT grew over 24% during the past five years to 47,507 students in fall 2023,” said Peter Katz, IPA executive managing director. “With this rapidly growing enrollment and little-to-no recent deliveries, the demand for off-campus student housing is outpacing supply, and as a result, Gateway at Denton is 100% occupied for the 2024-25 school year. Our team is appreciative to have helped facilitate this highly competitive bidding environment, and we acknowledge the seller and buyer on their collaboration in completing the trade.” Katz and Drew Kile, IPA executive managing director, represented the seller, Los Angeles-based MJW Investments, and procured the buyer, Vesper Holdings. Tim Speck, senior vice president and division manager is Marcus & Millichap’s broker of record in Texas.

The property is the first stop on Denton County Transportation Authority’s BST 164 bus line that takes students directly to campus. Rayzor Ranch Town Center, which includes a Sam’s Club, Walmart, WinCo, Albertsons, Petco, Academy Sports, and Marshalls is within a 10-minute drive.
