What’s with the November 28-29 game ?  I’ve seen games re-scheduled but never a “either/or” date.

The league probably wants to know who's gonna be the best matchup for a linear TV spot. Here are the league's choices:

Temple at UNT
UAB at Tulsa
Army at UTSA
Charlotte at Tulane
ECU at FAU
Rice at South Florida
Navy at Memphis

Honestly Army/UTSA and Navy/Memphis would be games of greatest interest. And I'd hate to see DATCU with 5K people on national TV.

I don't remember seeing it either.  Here's what the flyer says in the small print:

The American will announce Black Friday game selections by Oct 13

Overall, I think it's a good schedule. We're going to have 7 home games at least three of the next five seasons. So the marketing/sales teams are going to have to deal with a lot of home games in a short period of time. But that's what they get paid for.

Here are my positive takeaways:

  • The UTSA and Rice games are both on Saturdays. I figured we were due for a Friday night home game. While we will have at least two Friday games, neither are UTSA nor Rice. This conference needs rivalries to grow, so give the fans a better chance to travel! Games at SMU and UTSA the past two years were on Fridays, and Mean Green fans were not able to travel in full force.
  • Nobody cares about our post-Thanksgiving games, so at least we landed the opponent our fans care about the least in Temple for that game.

Too bad we are probably going to have another tough Homecoming, either against UTSA or Navy, which would have been well-attended games regardless.

What are these marketing/sales teams you speak of?????   Do they actually exist?   Has anyone really seen or heard from them?   They should all be re-assigned to getting students out to games!

As for the schedule itself, we got a break with no Memphis or Tulane this year.

6 very winnable games (Lamar, W. Mich, S. Ala, Charlotte, Rice, Temple)

3 moderate games (USF, UTSA, UAB)

3 tough games (Wash St, Army, Navy)

A Thanksgiving weekend game against an opponent who has never been of general interest makes 5K seem generous. We are the only school where all students run home to mama for the full length of any holiday. Does not bother any of P4 and that’s a reason we will never make it to that level.
