odds are far better that he'll get plucked up than we'll ever have to fire him. I know that's an odd situation for a UNT fan to process.

baring a Sweet 16-ish run, I tend to agree that he hasn't accomplished enough to impress the calibre of program that would be worth making a move.

There are a lot of lower end P4 schools that could easily pay him double to take over their non-winning programs.   It's his recruiting ability and defense that wins games.  It's not a sexy offense for fans, but an AD will see his track record and take a chance.

You know it’s okay Mean Green fans to start expecting Championships and Championship runs. From our basketball programs to our soccer and softball prowess we can expect. It’s totally legit to expect.

i saw Morris at the softball game on Tuesday supporting the Ladies which was great. It also okay and necessary to hold Eric to the same metrics. Time to deliver. Fall 2025 it’s on.

I could very easily be wrong, but I think it will take the right situation for Ross to leave…similar to Grant.  He’s from Texas and has coached in Texas most of his career.  I think he’ll be selective.🤞🤞🤞

Doesn't change the fact that Ross is and will be a hot commodity in his own right.

I do think he is great but some programs will look the other way because they want more offensive teams.  Defense is not as exciting to watch for some I suppose.  I personally love watching a good defense.

I didn't like the system at first.  I was always wanting them to pick up the pace and go, but I have learned to love it.  Honestly, the best part is watching our opposition become frustrated and we calmly execute our game plan.

Now, Ross was always known as the "coach in waiting" after McCasland.  Is there a coach on this staff identified as our "coach in waiting" under Boss Hodge?

don't think he's anywhere near as well regarded, but Jase Herl's resume reads a bit like Hodge's...2 years as a JUCO head coach, 5 games as an interim at Colorado State, assistant/associate at Missouri State, CSU and a handful of JUCOs.

safe to say though, once Hodge leaves we'll have a more open search than after GM.

You don't hear about any of the assistants under Ross, like we did him under Grant.

Speaking of assistants, how many do we have and how many are allowed?  Watching the game against FAU, it looked as if both benchs had tons of coaches, assuming all the wardrobe matches were coaches.  FAU looked to have more, but they were at home, so possible.  Are all those on the bench coaches or are others allowed to sit on the bench?

Seems like I remember there being a head coach and two assistants if the "good old days."  There were so many on TV that it jumped out at me...of course being dressed like just made it more obvious.

Just curious on how many allowed on the staff?

Official webpage/roster shows one head coach, 5 assistant coaches, 1 Director of Scouting, Video and Analytics, 1 S&C Coach, 1 AT, 1 Nutritionist and 4 graduate managers.

One assistant coach per position?

I only remember reading/hearing about Hodge, who's background in JC gives him more presence than most any other assistant.  I also recall Grant being pretty vocal in appreciation of our entire staff, but Hodge is the only one he would typically mention specifically to give credit for defensive contributions.

Last thought on this thread for now, look at Alan Huss and Jerrod Calhoun, two midmaj HC's that beat Ross this year.  Could also be looked at in the same esteem as Hodge.

I agree 100%. UNT is the biggest school and program he's ever been a part of, he doesn't have a Tech or Baylor on his biography. I think we have an easier time holding onto him, but fans and marketing team need to do their part.

I think his commitment to this university so far speaks volumes. He’s a fantastic coach and maybe an even better person. He has roots and connections in HS and college bball in this state for over 30 years as a player and coach. We are truly lucky to have him. I was watching old YouTube interviews of the early Grant years and he always glowed when asked about Hodge specifically. We gotta keep supporting the program and do our part. Hope our school sees it in my eyes as well. Would love to see him here for 15+ more years, he’s still “just a kid!” as the sopranos would say! (He’s 44 years old) 😂

I actually get jazzed when offensively explosive teams come into Denton or on the road look up almost 10 minutes in and are striving for 10 points or if they have calculated us right are driving for 20. It’s takes almost a half for their smelling salt to kick in when they are not sure what to expect. That is why teams that come out and punch us in the face first or soon often fare better.

In Wichita the pregame hosts on the local radio were predicting a tough battle with UNT winning like 85-81. I laughed a bit because it is hard to imagine point totals that high watching our identity of a program. We’re not Utah State Boise State which haul up and down the court.

I love our grit!

Any success is countered by when will the coach be hired away and how many players will be lost to NIL bids.

Enjoy the damn ride instead of worrying in season of what is going to happen.

There is plenty of time left for gloom and soon after the season.

We haven’t given up 70 in like fourteen games.

What's his big win? Not a moral win staying close to Memphis, but legit good win?

He lost to a horrible UTSA team, lost OOC games to teams he should have beaten. Not sure any P4 schools are banging on the door right now for Hodge, until he has done something. Winning 20 games with this schedule and the AAC being down is good but not worthy of a promotion to a P4

gotta love Conway
