Think WSU and OSU are going to keep spending at $90M+ once their new TV deal comes in?  Or will they skew down, closer to where the rest of that league is at?

Unclear at this point.  I suppose the same concern can be expressed for the AAC when its media deal is renegotiated now that that all the desirable content has departed.  Regardless, on-average, the PAC-12 is working with a higher base than the AAC so will likely continue to outspend us.  By that metric, it will be perceived (rightly or wrongly) as a notch above the rest of the G5.

All of those bids are worth money for the following 6 seasons. I wonder how much we could earn being part of that conference on basketball tourney credits alone.

Maybe someone with more direct knowledge can chime in, but I believe an NCAA tournament unit is a little over $2M paid out over 6 years or roughly $333K a year.  You earn a unit for the invite and additional units for every win.  For some reason, I don't think semi-final or final wins earn a unit.

Just on the bids alone, AAC earned 1 unit or $2M and the future PAC earned 4 units or $8M.  Depending on conference by-laws, the annual distribution of NCAA tournament units is split between members.  The AAC just voted to award the entire first year distribution to the school (or schools) that earned the unit(s) and share years 2-6.

Guys, it doesn’t matter. We aren’t going  out west. The administration hasn’t even talked to them. That’s from the biggest source out west that has covered the PAC for decades.

The admin doesn't want rumors flying.  Any contact would be thru back channels initially.  Plus, until the PAC gets firm media offers and settles the poaching lawsuit with the MWC, they really are not sure what they have in the bank to give/offer to other invitees yet.

Ok.

The guy who covers the PAC better than anyone says that we haven’t even had talks with them. None.

An administration that decided to tell the entire world that they’d rather host a faculty luncheon than help their athletic department host a home game against a power league team…

An athletic department that can’t get more people to show up for a team that finished second in the AAC in hoops. An athletic department that saw an instate team from 4 hours away clearly outdraw our team’s fans in a bowl game less than an hour away from campus and surrounded by hundreds of thousands of alums within that same hour radius…

Yeah, I’m sure the administration is really playing 4-D chess here. Probably acting like they hate athletics just to turn around and get us into the best G5 conference.

Im sure that there’s no way we just stay in the AAC, while we watch some combo of TX State and UTSA represent the state out west…

I swear, this site has some serious dreams about who we are. If you’ll listen and watch, you’ll see pretty easily what they think about athletics around here, they being the administration, faculty, students, alumni, and local citizenry.

Oh I agree our Athletic Department and Admin has been less than forward thinking and stoic.

But I recall similar frustrations I felt as a fan, and postings from the fanbase that we weren't doing anything to move up from CUSA.   Then all the sudden without any previous media mention we had a AAC invite.

Not saying that will happen this time.

Fair enough. I just thought you originally were saying that you thought they were gonna do something proactive here…I just don’t see it happening, not with the culture this place leads with.

I really have no problem waiting to see what the PAC media deal is.

First, that commish of the PAC doesn’t seem strong. The MWC commissioner is a fireball and she conveys strength and vision. The PAC woman seems to be learning as she goes. All these delayed announcements are not making the PAC look more interesting. They’re making it look more lost to desperate.

The deal may indeed be worth the effort to sell ourselves as a valuable candidate. But no need to do that without knowing what we are trying to join.
