I really hope we can put together 2 good halves in one game. Far too often we have a great first half and collapse in the second. Occasionally, we have a bad first half and a great second half. If we can put together a full 40, there's not many teams who can beat us.

agreed, but also, this conversation is happening at 85% of the teams in the nation... "if we could just play consistently well for both halves we could be (insert: '.500', 'a championship contender', 'the number 1 seed', 'ranked in the top ten', etc.)

then there's 14% of programs that feel they have no hope and/or don't care and the last 1% is made up of overconfident programs.

A win over FAU guarantees a bye into the Semi-finals at the AAC tournament. We need to win!

No a win gets a bye into Quarterfinals, not to Semi-finals.

... and starting that same game, from 20:00 - 10:06 in the first half, USF scored 7pts.  A terrible 10 minutes... for them.
Want to win the conference?   Keep doing that.     Right?

If so, we have to stick to the script of incredibly tough defense, with offensive sets that take a long time so guys can catch their breath some & get back after it on defense.   It's not unheard of for 5-6 possessions to come away empty (for any team).  If we happen to dictate pace (and we often do), that same 5-6 possessions can stretch 8-10min... easy, because both teams don't get shots off until the last 3-4 seconds of shot clock.   If we were an up-&-down, transition-style team, those same 5-6 possessions may only take ~4min.
It is what it is.   If this team were immune to scoring droughts, we'd be undefeated and ranked.

5-6 possessions? I just put the stats up above. We shot 2/17 and had 3 turnovers in that stretch. That's not 5-6 possessions. Y'all are seriously reaching on a lot of these excuses.

Yep...

The same people will state that the athletic department is doing a swell job. They're... blind. I'm being kind.

Oh but then the excuse by another was it's hard to get into a rhythm with the slow pace. So we do fine 30 minutes out of the game but for 10 minutes every game, we can't hit a shot. I'm fine if this were rare but every game is a trend that needs to be figured out. There's what? Four games before the conference tourney? Plenty of time to figure out a couple new rotations to see how guys work together. Would only need a few minutes every game. Maybe the next 10 minute drought is a great time to try new things.

“Every game”?   A little exaggerated, huh?

Its really crazy we still find things to complain about when we win. We have gaps in offense in every game, yet still only have 6 loses. If the gaps in offense were as big of a deal as people are making it out to be, why are the games still so close? I get we have great defense and that helps.

It's really crazy some are content with being good and don't expect their coach to take that next step to being great. I really don't care if this team finishes 24-6 if it means missing out on the big dance. That's what great teams play for. I think we could be a great team if we didn't have 5+ minute droughts every game.

Enough to boot us from at-large considerations.

I think you may be stuck on the UTSA game.   And believe me, that game sucked.  There's no excuse for what happened in the 1st half of that game.  Maybe the guys drank some Green Koolaid before, and just thought they'd roll the ball out there & watch the roadrunners fold... I dunno.
Outside of that game, I don't think any of our losses (certainly not any of our wins) have booted us from at-large considerations.    Outside of that horrendous UTSA game, the only other loss that could be considered "bad" would be the road loss to UAB (all other losses are to teams that are leading their leagues & in the drivers seat for auto-bids).   And we didn't have one of those horrible scoring droughts during that game.

I don't love a couple of our losses. Not for metrics sake, but perception. If you're trying to be a conference torch carrier in a conference that is trying to hug up against the top basketball conferences in the country you can't schedule games @ McNeese and @ HP. If you want to schedule them, fine, I guess. But bring them to Denton... if they won't come to Denton then move along. Comparatively speaking, that's like Texas Tech coming to Denton. Great for us. Really dumb for them.

McNeese is a home-&-home:

@HP is a tough one, but I think going on the road to play tough teams pre-conference is a good thing.  It worked out well for us @Minnesota.   Can't win 'em all.

Terrible home and home.. not trying to be elitist sounding, but you schedule a series like that with peer programs...

Also, can't ask your team to travel half way across the country to play at a highly competitive possibly 30 win no name team. It's a tough ask. We know what HP is capable of. HP and their leauge knows what HP is capable of. Noooooobody else could even tell you where HP is located. Some that it even exists.

To your Minnesota point, yes. The win at Minnesota was nice. Nice perception win and ring up. The mcneese and HP losses hurt us 2x more than Minnesota helped us, perceptually. You just can't lose those games. However, again, they should've never been scheduled.

I think you may be downplaying McNeese.    People who know D1 basketball know what McNeese & Will Wade are cooking.
You're right about HP.  Stinks we dropped that one, but again, they're in the drivers seat in their conference, so if they wind up as a tourney team, it won't look nearly as bad.

Game thread has two pages before tipoff? Is GMG.com back?

Is it the number of posts that makes that determination or the number of posters. So far about 15 members have posted on this thread.  I think you need at least twice as many posters to make the claim.
