Why would Ross Hodge EVER recruit or sign another kid out of HS in this current NCAA environment?

Kentucky made a living on one-and-done teams made up of the best high school  recruits in the nation.  The college basketball world has changed since then.   We can build our brand with the same one-and-done strategy, but with Seniors and grad transfers instead.  Once the North Texas brand is firmly established, we will be a destination the best players want to play for which will make recruiting much easier.

Always take best available players.

The best HS kids are gonna go to the blue blood programs.  With JUCO no longer counting, I'd say that Ross needs to focus on 2nd year JUCO kids that play for winning programs, and getting kids like Jossel who are bouncing back from KU.  He could absolutley get kids that are bouncing back from Tech that Grant can't use.  I don't think we will see another HS kid make the starting 5 in this gym anytime in the forseeable future unless there are changes at the NCAA level.

Kentucky pretty consistently underperformed expectations when that was what they did.  Rosters full of one-and-dones are typically not the best way to build team chemistry.

Or if they do gain chemistry, it happens midway or further in the season and by that time, usually hurts for getting an at large.

I believe we have one of the oldest teams in college basketball.   It helps to have maturity and players that don't get rattled in away games because they have been in that environment before.  I would take a basketball team full of transfer college juniors every year.   The same for football.

The AD posted a graphic recently showing Stone as the career leader in wins in program history and I almost threw my phone in the garbage. Seriously embarrassing to consistently promote a guy that barely deserves a roster spot. If he even does. Are they going to put on a street carnival to celebrate when he hits 100 career points?

Point of fact: Stone is actually north of 150 career points (I doubt he gets to 200 though).  😉

His playing time is well reduced this season, but I think Stone's provided some value to the program over the years.  We also don't know what it's like in the practices.  Sometimes it's not just what the box score shows.  Every guy on the squad is important.

He will have a critical role for us down the stretch with Jon Jon nursing his leg.

You are correct.  But it is sad to me that we will no longer get to follow high school player careers at UNT.

I agree. Love his attitude. Hustles, plays defense and rebounds. He understands our scheme and does stray outside of it. Not sure what his degree will be in, but this is the type of kid that turns into a good coach.

Why don’t you guys leave Stone alone.  The young man suits up for the Green and White of UNT, puts in a lot of practice time, and patiently waits for playing time.  Regardless, he shows up and is ready if called on.

I know everyone does harp on him for the on-court stuff, but all jokes aside he is a crucial part of this team in every aspect. I'd bet he's willing to sacrifice his life for UNT basketball
