I actually think this may have been best. We had him listed as LB/Co-DC. I don't think Co-DC works well. We need one DC.

I imagine the "Co-DC" was to raise his pay, not a matter of actual function.  There's no question the new guy is the DC.

For the posters on here who complain about NIL and paying players I hope you are reading this as another very short term coach uses UNT as a stepping stone to get another couple grand of pay.  I have no problem with him wanting more money but he is doing this on the shoulders of the young men who actually play the game and deal with lifetime injuries.  Get off you high horse and let's start paying these players what they deserve.

Not surprised.  I hate to see him go but our new DC brought his entire staff from Sam.

Nah, he was gone when Cassity was hired.  He agreed to hang on through the bowl game, so this was just a matter of time and him finding a fit.

And can we please stop comparing playing college football to someone’s profession?

Also, many high school head coaches* make a living “on the shoulders of the young men who actually play the game and deal with lifetime injuries,” so we obviously need to pay the high school players too.

*I say head coaches because the majority of assistant coaches compensation is for teaching, not coaching.
