Kendrick has 22 Grammy’s,

What Trombone Shorty song is your favorite? Think an entire stadium would sing the chorus?

Grammys?  You mean the organization that just awarded a non-country album the award for Country Album of the Year?  There's a good example.

Favorite songs of Trombone Shorty?  Buckjump comes to mind.  I don't listen to him all the time, but I do like his music and find him more of a musician that Kendrick Lamar.

Just for the record, my politics are probably way closer to CBLs  (and my age likely is as well since I'm in my 40s) than the vast majority of people that didn't like Lamar's performance, but I wasn't a fan either.  Of course I almost never like them, I tend to turn the volume way down (just loud enough to hear, so I know when the game comes back) and do something else.  The last time I remember actually tuning in to one was Paul McCartney.  I'd have to check the list of previous years, I'm sure there may be one here or there I enjoyed, but I bet it I wouldn't even use all the fingers on one hand.

My earlier post was in jest.

There is always going to be a segment of the population who doesn't like the halftime performer. I mean, it's baked in, right? As NT93 said, country certainly wouldn't be popular with everyone either. People have different preferences in music.

I think they've had a pretty good run in recent years, mostly following trends. If you're over a certain age, most likely those trends will be unrecognizable.

Also, it doesn't mean every show is going to appeal to everybody. It would not be hard to imagine the Super Bowl LX performer being Billie Eilish, for example. I couldn't care less, but my wife would be ecstatic.

Related but unrelated: I didn't hear any audio issues, but maybe the mix on Tubi was better than the OTA/cable feed?

You truly never really know what will resonate with people and why... I will say, as an oldhead, it's obvious that anyone saying this is the greatest diss track of all time has never heard ETHER, but I digress...

Kendrick writes a really good diss track against a Canadian superstar who's music is more radio-friendly, and popular.
For some reason, the youth of America falls in love with it.   Many of these same people were probably mega fans of Drake beforehand (and maybe still are?).
So of course Hov wants to see this at the SuperBowl, and makes the call.
Of course he's gonna play the song.  It just won a ton of Grammys, why would he leave it out?
He plays the song, and the stereotypical people that you'd guess would hate it... hate it (See CBL's picture above).  These are the folks who thought The Who or Bruce Springsteen was their favorite SB halftime show ever.
Kendrick fans come out and say the song wasn't really written for people like that anyway.  I mean, the song is called "Not like us" for crying out loud!
It's funny that it resonates with folks like this though:

Somehow, I don't think the same folks saying the song wasn't written for MAGA to appreciate would turn around and say, "yeah, it was written for this zesty guy in a cardigan!".

I love America.   Carry on.

@MeanGreenTexan  Well stated.  I didn't hate the halftime show, but I will also say that I am not a fan of current rap and that genre of music.  I also was never a fan of Springsteen.  I was looking back through the performers from past halftime shows trying to decide how I would rate them, or pick a top ten.  My obvious #1 was Prince, but I was a huge fan of his, but know people that didn't like him.  After Prince, I had a hard time putting them in any order and found most forgettable.  I remember people being critical of Bruno Mars and excited about the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  I thought Mars was great and RHC was the meh part.  I'm a Lenny Kravitz fan, but totally forgot he was part of the Katy Perry halftime show, because I wasn't a fan of her or the "dancing sharks" and tuned it out.   I liked Justin Timberlake in '18 and Tom Petty in '08, but don't recall anything really memorable about either performances.

My point in all of that is the like or dislike has nothing to do with race, as CBL intimated, and more about musical preference.  Then again, will any of us really remember this a year of two from now, or have to look up a list of halftime performers to jog our memory like I did.

My biggest disappointment?  Janet's boob.  Much uglier than I had envisioned.
