That's the only time I've ever turned the Super Bowl off before it ended in my life.  Didn't make it through the 3rd quarter.  At no point did it ever feel like KC was in the game.  Seattle / Denver 11 years ago, then maybe San Fran / Denver and Washington / Denver from the Elway days were like that?  Not old enough to remember seeing the Bears destroying the Pats.  It was bottom 5 all-time.  Maybe a Prince or MJ performance, but not Kendrick Lamar.

I knew you would play the race card.  It's your M.O.  The sound sucked and he appeals to a specific age demographic. Has nothing to do with his race.

I would prefer someone more widely liked or from New Orleans to show off their culture.  Have Trombone Shorty or someone like that represent NOLA.

the game was trash.

Prince is still the benchmark for halftime performances and will likely never be surpassed. And in terms of star power and entertainment value, the Dre/Snoop/MJB/Eminem/50/KDot performance from a few years ago probably has this covered…

but in terms of artistic authenticity, messaging…not to mention 80,000 singing along on a Grammy winning diss track…this was more culturally significant.

just a very specific, narrow shade of white.

“More widely liked”???

Kendrick has 22 Grammy’s, including 5 this year, and a Pulitzer Prize Multiple songs with over a billion streams on Spotify and the hit song of the summer.

What Trombone Shorty song is your favorite? Think an entire stadium would sing the chorus?

I don’t need to play a race card… it’s always already in play. Thanks for being exactly who “Uncle Sam” was talking to.

CBL, you have to admit that you didn’t get the reaction you were expecting or hoping for.  Good trolling effort, but the results just weren’t there.

I didn’t watch the halftime show (and not much of the game either), so I don’t know if it was good or bad…most likely depends if you like the genre.  I probably wouldn’t have liked it because it’s not my musical taste, but that has nothing to do with race.  Am I racist towards whites because I don’t like country music and most likely wouldn’t enjoy a halftime performance from “current country music star?”

eh...it was only like 20-25% troll.

I've been a massive Kendrick fan since "good kid, M.A.A.D city" dropped in 2012 and I was legitimately excited to see him get his chance on the biggest of stages and to me he effing killed it.

the negative response to his performance isn't about his music (or the sound quality...sheesh) itself, but what the show intended to communicate. it was social, it was political, it was provocative...all of which is the true nature of hip-hop...and the response from certain demographics was incredibly predictable

to your question...of course you can dislike hip hop and not be racist. that's silly.

That’s fair, though I think your troll percentage is a little low🤣

I think I would speak for a lot of people when I say the “social, political, provocative” is a turnoff.  Again, nothing to do with race.  I used to be a huge U2 fan (and I still like their music), but Bono wore me out with his mostly political speeches during concerts. I haven’t had a desire to see them live in years.  I don’t want politics, etc as part of my entertainment.  I don’t find politics entertaining.  I love music and I love sports, but I prefer that politics not be a part of either.

You say the negative response had nothing to do with his music, but rap/hip hop is certainly more a part of the black community than the white community, so I wouldn’t think it would be surprising to see white folks say it sucked.  Country music is more a part of the white community, so I would expect a large percentage of the black community to think, let’s say, Blake Shelton performing at halftime would suck.  Neither is racist as most whites would feel the same about Post Malone and most blacks would feel the same about Darius Rucker.

Nuanced, thoughtful, or earnestly inquisitive conversation has no place here, sir.  Don't offer different perspectives that you may have experienced, or even considered.  Those are to be dismissed out of hand because of your perceived biases, and which "other" group you belong to.

As determined by us.

Stick to knee-jerk name-calling, tribal chest-thumping, and behavior as seen through college freshman/sophomore-level political and social theories, and you'll be fine.
