Softball: Trojan Classic, Troy, AL (2/7-9/2025)

Softball season is here, starting with five games in Troy, Alabama at the Trojan Classic. Only host Troy finished with a good record (34-22) last year while Tennessee State is the only other with a winning record (26-25). Central Michigan is the participant with the worst 2024 record at 17-33 and we play them twice. Would be nice to get off to at least a 4-1 record to kick off the new slate.

We've talked about how much talent was lost from graduation already. It is hard to get the info to accurately judge college softball transfers and recruits. For what it is worth, Charlotte, who won all four meetings between us last year, and lost their coach and most of their roster, was picked to finish 8th in the American. After losing all of our production, we were still picked to finish 3rd.

If anyone can figure out how to watch these games, please share.

Where do we get those Nike fitted mean green script hats the softball coach wears? I would buy 5 of them if I knew

Top of 2nd....against CMU....Mean Green up 2-0. Rylie Nicholson doubled in a run. Then later, she stole 3rd......catchers throw was wild....and she scored on the overthrow.

Tatum Sparks is catching. Rylie McNemar at 3rd. Freshman Ausha Moore is at shortstop....with Cierra Simon moved to 2nd. 1st base is Kailyn Bearpaw (transfer from Tulsa).

Looks like Skylar got out of some tough situations earlier. 2 runners in scoring position with one out in the first inning, a runner on second with no outs in the 2nd.

BALLGAME! UNT surrenders the 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 7th. In the 8th, the transfer Bearclaw hits a two-run homer and the ladies hold in the bottom frame to beat Central Michigan, 5-3 and start 2025 1-0!

And the WP was also a transfer from Tulsa. Anneka Anderson who almost no-hit us last year. We got two great players from TU.

She left with an out in the 7th, but all 3 runs go on her record.

Down 2-0 to Tennessee State.......middle of the second. We're the home team....so we have six more innings to come back.

Once again Maddie Conley and Rylie Nicholson help us get on the board. (as in game 1....when Maddie walked and Rylie doubled her home).

This game....Maddie doubled, Rylie singled her home. Then Elizabeth Moffit....doubled her home.

Moffit on 3rd....one out......2-2 game........bottom of the 2nd.

4-3 UNT going into the fifth. Anderson is pitching again and has not given up any hits through 2.1 but has walked four batters.

Tough to see with Childers, who really struggled to close 2024.
