An unexpected casualty of the NIL.  Years ago, I was at A&M visiting my son and wanted to watch practice at Kyle Field.  There was a volunteer at each portal to prevent guys like me from “spying.”  The world we live in.

Just listened to a guy on CBSSports.com stating that under the current transfer portal situation, why would teams want to showcase their talent just to have other teams come in a try to lure them away.  He predicted spring games would become closed to prying eyes until changes are made to the portal/post spring game entries.

If a decision is made to change the portal window to once a year, and that is before the spring, then yes, continuous spring practice. However, with the current setup, I would not have the spring practice or at least a spring game in anything public. G5 schools are the hunting ground for the power schools to try and fill their needs that they discover after their spring practices.

Kinda surprised they didn't have a Cadet with saber drawn at each entry.  They would fight each other for that privilege.

My guess is the cadets there do plenty of sword fighting but probably not the kind you were thinking…

There is no purpose for a Spring Game and there never was.  The coaches will never show anything they have been working on.  Players can only get hurt for no gain.  The fans can't tell if the defense is good or the offense is bad.  In HS, it is just for the parents to see their babies.  In college, it has no purpose.

I agree.  I also thought, at least at the high school level, that it was somewhat of a carrot to hold in front of the players.  Kind of a “work hard for these two weeks and we’ll finish it off with a big scrimmage” type of mindset to keep the team engaged.

Without a spring football scrimmage, it's another reason we should have Baseball.

So we can try to build a bigger fanbase all year long, not just in the Fall.

If we just had the money to do that…

No spring game, just an "open" practice on March 22:

Feels like just like every other year. From my view, it has been many years since the "Spring Game" felt anything like an actual game. But I still liked to be there. And will attend this year's practice also.

Per espn, Texas and Southern California just canceled theirs because of “changing landscape and financial decision”

UT is still hosting a spring event but it will be in an NFL OTA style.
