Losing on a Monday and having to sulk in this defeat all week sucks. Second straight loss for the first time this season makes it more anxiety-inducing. Need these next three vs. Tulane, Rice, and Tulsa before our Florida trip.

Skimming over the scoring timeline I see we had roughly 24 scoreless minutes.  The good news is we only had two 3 or nearly 3 minute scoring droughts in the second half.  The bad news is, they both came in the final 10 minutes. 🙄

Rick

did the other board just become too 4chan-y?

What other board, Margaret?

Don’t respond to the trolls and they will be quiet, or so that is what I am told.

We are going to be alright. Hodge is a hell of a coach. Don’t believe me just look at his career record. Walker and Jossell have been sick, it’s the middle of the season, etc.  These days off come at a great time for us. Heal up, get some rest and let’s finish strong. We just didn’t forget to play.

Hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to beat them at home = we’re awesome.

Miss a 3 pointer at the buzzer that would have tied them on the road = we suck.

This seems to be what I’m reading with a few exceptions.  Make it make sense.

I love how some random asshat on a message board definitely knows that an unproven bench player can do more than a current rotational player.

has anyone considered that Mason might suck?

Why not give him a shot and find out? Is it hard to do what some of these guys are doing offensively? It’s not like anyone is averaging 20 a game easily and consistently. Variety is the spice of life. I can’t help that you like boring.

Player: “Give me a shot and I’ll show you what I can do.”

Coach: “Show me what you can do and I’ll give you a shot.”

@CMJ, respectfully, you can suck it. We're gonna need to change some things up if we want to beat UAB on the road Monday night. So I'm starting the game thread this time. DEAL WITH IT!

Well this didn't work. @CMJ, unlike Tyran Mason, you're back in.

It's not that simple.

At home we let them put us in a 17-point halftime hole. At their place it never felt like we had a chance.

Frankly, I think they're a better program than us. They're able to hang onto really good players and add to the fold. That's what good programs are able to do in this day and age. They are more athletic than us, more skilled than us, and more aggressive than us. And that's not really a 2024-2025 ordeal. It's been this way. We have to dogfight them with our defense while also outshooting them to overcome their superior athleticism/coaching. It's been this way. So, you can say, "oh, beat them with a 3 and lost to them by not hitting a 3." It's not that simple. It never is.

They lead the all-time series 11-9 since 1950.

In recent years, beginning of the McCasland era until today:

2024-25: 1-1

2023-24: 0-2

2022-23: 3-1

2021-22: 1-1

2020-21: 0-2

2019-20: 0-1

2018-19: 0-1

2017-18: 1-0

Total 6-9

We obviously play different styles, but I think this refutes your comment.

Seems contradictory to say “they are more athletic than us, more skilled than us, and more aggressive than us” and “their superior athleticism/coaching” yet every time  we play them it seems to come down to the last shot and we seem to win about as many as lose.  They obviously aren’t taking advantage of their superior talent and coaching.

So outside of 1 year where we had their number, we are 3-8 vs them during this run of success we are in. Sounds like that confirms my statement.

People tend to carry the football mentality over here. It's win or nothing. For football, I agree until they prove it. Basketball has a MUCH longer leash.

We were in both games, regardless of how it happens, this usually means the teams are fairly equal. I haven't looked at previous meetings scores, but I would probably say it has been the case for a while. It's just a great match up.

Honestly, I hope we can avoid them in the tourney. If they are 2nd and we are 3rd, we might have a chance to bypass them.

After processing this loss, I feel like this is still just a bump in the road. The next 2 games are bigger though. You can't go anything less than 2-0 now before getting some rest.

If we go 1-1, I will start being a little concerned. Especially if they go 3 losses in a row.
