why? one game isn't an indictment on a season or program. we played the worst 20 minutes of basketball maybe since Benford and had still a chance to win a game at the end.

we have a top 50-75 basketball team. everyone else in that same range has just as many warts.

tonight sucks, but the bigger picture hasn't changed.

One game can be an ndictment on a team trying to create a profile to hopefully get a sniff at an at large. Now, it's about getting to 20 wins, period. Confidence is hard to bounce back from that. Also, we've been playing with fire offensively all season.

Ridiculous. I've been a college basketball fan for decades and this is unprecedented in my experience. Your name calling would be better applied to the sad pass attempts etc.

Unprecedented?  We had top 25 buzz and lost to a Alabama-Huntsville team in Benford's first season.  This isn't the same universe as that.

wait...we have 9 games to win 4 to hit 20...are you suggesting we might not make it?

to the bold part...I agree. if Hodge was the "DC" under Grant, I'd love to see him hire an "OC".

that was the exact same line as KSU @ ISU and the Cyclones lost by 19.

So? What does that mean for us? How many at larges will the Big 12 have? AAC doesn’t have that luxury. I’m sure ISU will be fine.

But no one here gives af about that.

you don't need to "care", just allow it to give some perspective. if we're going to be a "basketball school" which you're one leading the drum-beat for...you need to recognize that basketball isn't football...every team is going to lose a game they shouldn't.

without checking, I don't think we've ever had an undefeated national champion in basketball.

just today...so far. these things happen...it is sooooo hard to be perfect in conference. it sucks, but we're in the exact same spot we were heading into tonight...the only thing that has changed is any potential long-shot ambiguity about how we make the tournament. get over it.

It is hard to go unscathed in league play, no denying that. UTSA is not good, also no denying that.  They just got run by like 20 against FAU. Fans are going to be pissed (myself included) that we had to have this game, at this time, to play some of the worst basketball of the GMac/Hodge era. It just feels so North Texas. Probably unfair cause basketball comes through more regularly than just about any sport we have - but it is what it is.

Honestly, these past several games I’ve become increasingly concerned with our guard play. Today was a massive red flag in that regard. Then layer on the fact that UTSA managed to neutralize Sissoko today, and it gives me concern about the ceiling on this thing.

In NCAA history?  Sure we have, just not in the last 50 years or so.  I believe Indiana in '76 was the last.

Iowa St is ranked #3 in the country. That horrible loss may drop them all the way to #10 in the country. they can afford that loss.

they will be ranked really high in the tourney.

I still love this team, but this game reminded me of the CUSA tournament game when we got beat in the game where we couldn’t hit anything.  Lots of blame to go around, but this could be a blessing in disguise as we move towards the conference tournament.

Can’t wait to be there next Saturday.

I asked after the High Point loss...what is it that everyone really thinks we are?

8 games in with a whole new team? How could anyone tell?

at this point in the season?  I would think we might have a better idea. Maybe not?

Sure. Eat an L at UAB. Eat one at FAU. Don't get embarrassed at home vs a bottom 1/4 team.

Hey man.

if this were the football team we would be taking about how unprepared the team was.

which

sure seemed like we were.

UTSA outplayed us in every facet. Why is that acceptable? I thought we needed higher standards?

I’m not saying fire Hodge. That’s stupid.  But to at was a severe let down. And now we’re gonna bitch about attendance the rest of the year.

lets handle the basketball team with kid gloves?

Nobody is saying to handle the basketball team with kid gloves.

if this were the football team, we would be talking about multiple games where we got badly outcoached. This basketball team is 11-1 at home and absolutely has a right to demand that people show up.

After 6 straight wins, yes we laid an egg in this game…but every team in our conference not named Memphis would love to be EXACTLY where we are and, yes, they have EARNED crowds like tonight every night.

Who is responsible for attendance?

Beyond gutted on that drive home. Hodge literally hit all the points and called out the team in the postgame. He’s very self aware of what he has, we should be thankful. Let’s dawg out UAB and turn this around. ESPN2 game to boot.

I would say the folks that walk into the Super Pit, or don’t.

If our fan base is so fickle that a game like tonight, in the midst of what this team has done this year and this program has done for the past almost decade, can make people stay home…then we don’t have North Texas basketball fans, we have bandwagoners.

Not even many bandwagoners.  The Denton area has in my fifty plus years of following the team always took advantage of the school and provided little fan support.  There are some great fans, but the norm is most are much more concerned with the Cowboys and the very top college squads.  They enjoy the commerce the school provides, but do nothing to support the school or it's athletics.
