It was idiotic talk anyway.

It really wasn’t. Likely, probably not. Possible before the fart and fall down against a shitty UTSA team, yes.

Bare minimum, a couple more wins would have kept the program in the conversation for braketologists to plaster all over social media & probably getting a few votes for the AP and Coaches Top 25 polls. Not hang the banner type stuff, but still something for a progressing program.

@Censored by Laurie’s point about our trajectory not really having changed - needing to win Ft Worth is true. I just feel way worse about our neutral court chances than I did prior to Saturday. Our guard play has become (maybe it always was) very worrisome.

I understand that Coach likes a tight 8 man rotation.

But when you have that first half scoring lull....and you don't throw anybody different into the mix....especially Tyrann Mason.....that I don't get.

13 freaking points at half and the coach made 0 adjustments let that sink in yall. Didn’t even put Stone in or Mason in, nothing. Just watched and screamed as we passed the ball side to side against a zone and never threatened down low. When we did drive, we threw it into the hands of a double team on a backdoor cut at least 5 times in the 1st half and watched them run fastbreaks. It was crazy work by Hodge. But hey “Pay The Man” 45 games into his tenure right? I better see at least 5 elbows in the chest of Yaxel tomorrow night in the first 5 mins or we are cooked.

I just cannot understand how we can not defeat UTSA at football or basketball. It makes no sense. It’s just so damn depressing. And of course we do it in front of over 5k at the Suoer Pit.

We just beat them on Jan 18

it is just so hard to be perfect in conference play...especially in a rivalry game. we'll have a better idea of the overall character of the team tonight. the night after Wright got blanked v. Memphis he dropped 21 and had a three-game run of shooting almost 60% from 3.

I agree with you on our guard play. Wright is probably the best shooter not name Tylor Perry (or Spring'09 Adam McCoy) that we've had in my time following the program, but he really struggles to create his own. Floyd has largely been a disappointment, at least from what I thought he'd bring...suss ball-handling, questionable decision-making and no where near as active defensively as his top-10-in-the-nation in steals stat line at Fairfield would've indicated (maybe they let him gamble more?)...and since dropping 20 v. UAB, Jossel's shot has gone to absolute shit (4 of 27 from 3...15%).

great idea. get down and put in two guys who haven't taken off a warm-up in 2 months. would've been the best way to show your whole team that you're panicked.

they scored 3x as many points in the second half... seems like there were some adjustments...

This board was hot on Saturday night... the loss sucked, but it's basketball, and this happens way more than football. Just puts more pressure on Hodge to win the tourney.

This is what we are playing for, the conference tourney...

You obviously missed my entire point. It’s not about panic, it’s about adjustments. Stone made a huge 3 against utsa in their barn just a couple weeks ago, could’ve used that again, mason has had moments when he gets in that he belongs. He’s a 6’6 frosh with so much shooting upside and the coach doesn’t play him. You’ll say it’s irrelevant because we came back in the 2nd half I get it. What happens when we get in foul trouble and or an injury happens? Would be nice to have people on the bench with recent playing time but I guess not. I digress it’s not my place, we are just typing on a message board. It would just be nice to see some mix up of a stagnant offense for a month now. Let’s get this W tonight. GMG

I agree with what you're saying. And if not anything else, it's a slap in the face to the bench guys. It's basically saying you're not even good enough to contribute to 13 points/half so no need putting you guys in.

imma suggest that ten straight DNPs probably conveys a a bit louder message.

I can see both sides: on one hand,  putting those guys in can indicate you ran out of ideas with the rotation that got you to where you are, which can crack the faith the players have in Hodge.  On the other, don't put the bench guys on the court and you're telling them you have zero faith in their ability to contribute.

I think you have to have trust in Hodge that he is reading these guys and knows how to keep their faith and togetherness.  Hard to read the locker room from the outside looking in.

I didn't miss the point at all, I just thought it was a bad point. you go into a game with a game-plan, and part of Hodge's game-pan is a tight 8 man rotation. that game-plan had won us 6 straight, and 10 of 11 games with some of our highest offensive production games of the year.

to have thrown in Stone or Mason into that first half would've been a panic move and would've told the guys who actually play (I don't really care what the bench players feel) that the coach has lost faith in them. now if the team starts going on a losing streak and no clear adjustments in either personnel or approach are made...well, that's a different story.

right or wrong to keep that faith, by the way. this isn't what I "want" to see...I personally would love to see how good Massie is as a 40-minute/game bench cheerleader. he has a ton of out-of-control nervous energy, so like, is he better than Brock Vice on the sidelines?

Latrell jossell is now down to 34% on the season from the entire field and he gets the green light to go 0-6 nightly from deep. Make it make sense Hodge, that’s all we want

Dude needs to be benched period.  That’s on Ross.

Maybe this is just what he needs. Another game against UAB.
