The blue hair women’s studies majors who go to our school will never be college basketball fans.

That's funny cause i dyed my hair blue for a time while attending UNT football and basketball games.

I am a proud Delta Sig, 1980 graduate and I ran into two of our actives at the game Wednesday and they were pumped up and stated that there were more actives at the game. It is an untapped potential, not sure why it is not being worked. There should be a challenge among the various fraternities and sororities to see who can get the most members to a game and which one is the loudest.  Same could be done with the various dorms.  In the middle/late 1970s we had the Super Pit rocking, and only a total enrollment of 17,000 students.

That is a fair question about our president. I have no idea what he believes about athletics. There was no question with Dr. Smastrek from the jump. It’s beyond time having heard specifics from our new leader.

If I’ve missed it my bad but we really deserve more communication in this critical ever changing sports landscape.

FWIW, the do usually do a "Greek" night once a year. Only so many times you can really pull that string.

Also, don't discount the blue haired "nerds" of UNT. More of them show up to these games than Greek life does.

It shouldn’t be a “once a year” thing with the Greeks. Those students are looking for a reason to socialize and party and there is a built-in opportunity about 15 times a year via men’s basketball games.
It should be a part of the Greek culture just like it is at Baylor and Texas Tech and all the other school’s with athletic support that we aspire to.
We have the basketball team and the Greek numbers to pull it off too. I saw Sig Ep there. Who will be there Sunday?

Amazes me to hear that the Greeks do not engage more with UNT athletics.  What do they do at night?  Just around the frat house and drink?

Sorry….Why don’t we ALWAYS have Greeks at the game ?  All games ?

If they’re highly invest(ed) in good sports teams, why do they need a special invitation to support their school’s teams ?

Back in the stone age there was a Greek Council that planned Greek events. You would think that the athletic department could meet with them and ask that they assign a fraternity and sorority to attend EACH home basketball game, Men's and Women's.They could do the same with football, perhaps shutting down their tailgating shortly before kick off. The Greeks talk about being involved in school activities but they don't walk the walk. Maybe they need to be told that its expected of them.

They're all back in their houses complaining about the blue hair kids who are actually at the games.

We still on this bit? It can be both true that some blue haired people enjoy themselves an athletic event AND way more non blue haired people enjoy it more often, become lifelong fans, donors and season ticket holders more FREQUENTLY in comparison. You don't have to get on here and defend your hair dye saga event.

When I was at UNT, there was no need to shutdown the tailgate. We all went in as a group from the tailgate and enjoyed the games. There were also Greek life members all over SGA. It was a main talking point that we needed to boost attendance and be part of that change. I don't know what's happened since then.

In my experience, the students inclined towards the arts expressed animosity towards sports. Almost like there was jealousy at the attention and resources dumped in sports without realizing athletics are often the main link between a school and its alumni and therefore a big opportunity to attract donations to help fund other on campus projects. Those students geared towards the arts are more likely those to dye their hair as well. There are exceptions on all sides though.

Yeah I'm well aware of the stereotypes, but go ahead and scan or meet the student crowds at the basketball and football games and get back with me about the greek/weirdo ratio. I mean you don't even need to scan the crowds, just go talk to anyone who was a talon in the last 25 years and get back to me about the various frats and sororities they have crossover with. I mean if it was the greeks pulling in all the support we wouldn't be creating a thread about how surprised we are that literally a few of them from one specific frat showed up to one specific game.

I agree with your assessment as it pertains to UNT. As somebody who was a member of our Greek life membership, I think our Greek life is a joke overall. Those are the students who clearly are ashamed of their school and wishes they were elsewhere. Greek life leadership at UNT needs to look in the mirror and recognize they're part of the problem as it pertains to public perception.

Without naming names, I can tell you a couple of our biggest donors with names on buildings were Greek life members at UNT. What's happened since they were students, I have no clue.
