I've heard a couple west coast podcasters say Memphis, Tulane, and USF all want to wait for a more Eastern based conference promotion, like ACC or Big 12. They don't want their media Grant of Rights held hostage in the Pac. Texas schools (UTSA, UNT, Texas State) would be their next focus.
Plus, an insider media expert said there would not be any more revenue offered for any single G5 addition over another, meaning they just want to fill the time slot and team names are not important.
The PAC seems to believe they will be the premier G5 conference in 2026 with their Top 5-6 starting lineup. They expect to get the next 3/5 CFP auto bids.
I never really liked the autobid for conference tournament champions. The regular season should mean more than an end of season tournament.
Isn’t there a conference that’s making it almost impossible for anyone but maybe a top 4 seed to win the conference tournament? I know I saw a crazy bracket, but I can’t remember if it was real or just a proposal.
I also don’t like the fact that there will be several teams in the tournament who are not as good as UNT, but honestly, many of those teams are what make the tournament special every year.
