on this topic   Im hauling my trailer up there on feb. 1st and cooking before the game up on the concourse.  That usually gets a good crowd out.  the whole tailgate thing before the game.  lets see how it works this year.  not sure why there hasn't been any marketing started on this topic so here it is.  Don't shoot the messenger

Attendance is the same as when J.J. was here and we ran an up pace offense so I would disagree.

The Johnny Jones teams weren't nearly as good as the teams from the past 6 years and we played in a much worse conference. I don't think our slow style of play is a huge factor, but the fact attendance is relatively the same between the two eras makes me think there's something to it.

Like if we had the same amount of success the past 6 years by playing up-tempo and beating teams by scoring 75+ every night, we 100% would have better attendance. Even if just a few hundred more per game.

Getting alumni there is one thing, but why are the students not attending games??  The students live there, the team is doing well, why are they not attending games?  I can remember years when the team was not so good, yet the students showed up, and the student population was a lot smaller back then.

Very nice.  I am coming to town for that game.

A 6:30 game on a Wednesday is a B for someone that doesn’t live in close proximity.  I live in Allen and could never consider that drive.

I don’t get this. I make it from Frisco to Denton for every home game. It’s not that far. 35-40 min drive with traffic 🤷‍♂️

I think we need to go out and hire a great promotional staff instead of the current people we have in place. The last failed "retro 70's" promotion was just flat out lazy. As some have mentioned on here, good idea with a lot of possibilities but wasted on just sending out an email and giving away 500 shirts that were mostly small and adult large. I'd love some accountability from the university on what efforts have been made to get the greeks and other campus organizations to attend the games. Until we get students attending in large numbers, we won't create active alumni support when they graduate. Look at the football games and how many students party on the hill and don't go in to watch the game. You may have to buy their support for a few years until it becomes the thing to do. Apathy isn't just a UNT problem. It affects lots of other mid majors as well.

People drive from all over to attend the Mavs, Stars and Cowboys games. If you really want to be there, you will make it work.  My drive is only 30 minutes, but I only have to deal with I-35 traffic going to the game.

'Frisco' doesn't help the conversation much.    Little Elm Frisco or McKinney Plano Frisco.    Those are 2 very different places and distances from Denton.

Not saying you can't or aren't making it, just know that all Frisco is not 'Frisco'.

Huh? I just said Frisco because you said you can’t make it from Allen, which is right next to Frisco 🤷‍♂️ making a point that you CAN make it if you really want to

Touché.   I’m in east Allen.  About a block from ‘not Allen’.  As I sit right now at 6:21p, I’m 67 mins away from the Pit.

Hour 10 to get there.  45 to get home. MVSU and 1500-2000 people in the stands. I’m gunna have to pass….but GMG!

You would still make it if you really wanted too. Agree to disagree

I know Denton has started to grow into the Metro area, but Denton sort of has its own metro area. I wonder how many alum live in or within 10 miles of Denton?

I'm sure technology exists to plot address locations on a zoomable map.

Plot current football and/or basketball season ticket holder's general address locations on a map.

Then also plot alumni locations on a separate map.

The same for current students  locations.

Let's see what geographic "hot" zones our fans, alums, and students reside.  Then tailor marketing to the hot and cold zones.

As an example...

I’m in East Allen as well, but I get your point. When you have home games like MVSU, Wayland Baptist and Houston Christian….it really doesn’t put the wow factor in getting motivated to go.

The AD and his staff are just going through the motions and I feel bad as hard as this basketball team works and their recent accomplishments…they get a cheap game day atmosphere or a t-shirt gun that doesn’t work.

Frisco is not the same as those driving from south of 20 or Rockwall/Kaufman county. Commute right now at 7pm from my house is 1 hour 10 minutes. To make it to a 7pm game, the eta jumps to 2 hours. Factor in another 1h10 minutes to get home and there's just no way I could make it to a 7pm game when I barely make it home until 5pm and then justify keeping elementary aged kids out until past 10pm on a school night.

Weekday attendance has to come from Denton County.
