Those of you that attend North Texas Men’s basketball, have you noticed Rob Coffey’s introduction line ?  Rob welcomes fans to “Denton, America !”  I’ve noticed this the last 3 home games.  I asked him about it Wednesday and he said, (paraphrase) “I just read what they hand me.”  Which makes sense, but why have we abandoned Texas in the intro ?  Texas is and always has been part of our name.  The only time I’ve ever heard “Denton, America” was when Smith Brother’s Roping was going great guns.  While I’m proud to be an American, when asked, I tell people I’m from Denton, TEXAS.

Has anybody else noticed this ?

I have and I think it must be a trademark of his or something.  He’s been saying that for as long I have known him.

We are not, and never should strive to be the "University of Denton".

Is the ECU basketball intro:  Welcome fans to "Greenville, America!"??

I love it, actually.

I say wait until Denton shows NT some love first.... before NT proclaims it's love for Denton.

Denton, America????   Who came up with that?  What happened to the great state of Texas?  Did Mexico invade Texas and take it over while I was sleeping?

Denton, Texas, USA.

Are we sure he’s just not emphasizing the sentence incorrectly? Are you sure it shouldn’t be interpreted as welcoming America (the public) to Denton?

Eh ?  Eh ?   I haven’t missed a home game this season.  I spoke with Rob before the Rice game.  “What’s up with the ‘Denton, America?’ I asked.”

As I said, he said, “I just read what THEY give me.”

No,Teeth.  I don’t think I got it backwards.

Maybe "They" could answer the question?

I've heard it since at least last season, I don't mind it. I guess it is meant to convey we are the only Denton in America (although we aren't, there's a few tiny Denton's in other states).

I remember many in Riesel, the town where I graduated high school, would refer to it as "Riesel, America."
