The PAC is dead and the MWC isn’t far behind.

I wouldn't call it dead, its not what it was.  However they are building a solid G6 level conference, and if they are able to lure a school like Memphis then I think UNT would have to go too.  Then Texas State could take our place.

What's the latest with the PAC 12?  Who all do they have/are adding?

They are shopping their media rights around, expect them to make moves by summer as they need to have 8 full members to be a conference by 2026. I don't think they get there, but if they can get $12m-$15m per team expect them to make another run at Memphis/Tulane.

We keep Rice around so they can make the AAC look smarter

Tulsa serves pretty much the same purpose. They are the Rice of Oklahoma. And I don't like them either. I used to hope we could develop a rivalry with Tulsa, but they (like Rice) don't seem to be the least bit interested. SO, as far as I'm concerned, they can both go off to some other conference and be aloof and indifferent to them.

I would be very surprised to see them get close to those figures. If so, that's great for the AAC as the market would be set favorably for us when we have to negotiate. I just don't see it, though.

The PAC-12 is the PAC-2 for football with WA St. and OR St.

For basketball, they've partnered with the WCC, but honestly the WCC just agreed to include the PAC-2 teams into their league.

They have zero leverage to secure a media rights deal, and have nowhere to turn.  They are DOA

No. We could have stayed in the Southland back in the 90's if we wanted to conference with Texas State. Aspire to more please.

Well we like to think that we've moved on a great deal since our days the Southland, but have we moved on as much as Texas State? Everyone still has their perception of Texas State that is stuck in the days of the Southland. But they have moved on people! Going to Texas State would be a good road trip for us. Their stadium has the same capacity as ours, and they brought more fans to a bowl game than us. And we are only about 35 miles from Ford Stadium.

PLUS they have a better FOOTBALL BAND than us.......Bing Videos

The prestige of the PAC is dead, and @NorthTexasWeLove is right: we are entering an era (if we aren't there already lol) where geography is a much bigger priority for non-Power leagues.

I hope we do away with this notion that we should share a G conference with California or Washington schools.  It's already a whip that we are in one with schools that sit just off the eastern coast.

I don't get the idea of if-Tigers-go-we-need-to-follow.  I think it makes more sense to be attached to Texas State than Memphis.

After the bowl, I’m of the opinion that we should have Texas State on the schedule for an annual home and home series, even if we aren’t in a conference with them. It was a great atmosphere. School is close. Large public Texas institution. Fans are fun and also like to party. What is not to like?

Those qualities may be fine for us, but nor for ECU or Charlotte or USF, etc.   There is no way they want another Texas school in the AAC.

They would rather have Ga State, or Jax St., or James Madison, or App St, or WKU.  Also, a 16-18 team conference gets too big.  It needs to stay 12-14 football/basketball members at most.

Dont worry about the old Pac12, worry about the new one.  Just look at who they are adding:  Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, and Gonzaga in basketball.   I'm a little surprised they did not get UNLV (yet), but thats still a good athletic conference, and if they poach Memphis then why stay in the AAC?

Agree, I see them topping out at maybe $10M per team, and wouldn't be surprised to see $7m-8m. I don't think the extra travel is worth it at that point for Memphis and Tulane.

UNLV was offered a "Boise" type deal with higher revenue than the other members to stay in the MWC.  They may come to regret it.

The PAC needs at least one more football member.  I believe they will make another run at Memphi$ when they get more media deal info.  I'm surprised the AAC hasn't floated a GOR agreement already with current members to keep them in-house.

Thanks.  I think most of our fans are very positive on the addition of Texas State.

They're not good at anything other than being a close destination to party at. This conference already has plenty of not good at anything.
