  1. 1. Should we add Texas State to the AAC?

They'd have been a better add than some programs. Looking at football and basketball, they've been decently competitive in both the past few years and clearly are investing. More than a couple programs out east could say.

As in, right now?  If a school leaves and we need a replacement, I see them as a solid candidate.  But I don't think we need to add them just to add them.

Agreed - no need to expand the number of AAC schools.  If a member school leaves the AAC, then I think Texas State is a strong candidate to consider.  The eastern schools might not like that though ... I would imagine that they would pitch other candidates such as Western Kentucky.

Texas State brought even more of a Gameday experience than UTSA. They are a solid program. I would only add them if San Antonio departs for the PAC. I think they could be wooed with Memphis still. I think our next adds in the following order are:

James Madison (Good brand recognition)

Texas State (only if SAT leaves)

Air Force (They are in a legally solid MWC)

I don’t really understand the strong desire some have to expand. Like a couple others said, if the conference loses some teams, sure.. they’d be on the short list. But we’re already seeing the flaws in these huge conferences and not being able to play everyone on a yearly basis. Lets see what the next couple years looks like before the AAC just starts throwing invites out to anyone that shows a couple good athletic years.

I’d hope Texas State potentially joining the AAC would be in response to us joining the PAC along with UTSA.

Well the PAC needs 1 more. They want UNLV who cannot get out of the MWC.

I could see the PAC saying during the bowl game, there are my two programs to expand: TSU and UNT. Or they could try UTSA and UNT - either way south Texas north Texas has to be interesting to them.

I don’t think Jared does it though. We are married to the AAC. Our future rival is with UTSA or TSU both while being in the American. TSU would flourish in the American. Nicely balanced football and basketball programs. The Bobcat secretly must want the Runner to move on.

Agree on JMU, they have a strong brand, fan base, and admin. that makes the right choices.

For those same reasons I'd put App. State at #2.

App state’s TV market is not good though.

They are a nationally known and respected team, I think they could easily be a Boise st. type. They have a very loyal fan base, and I'd take that over just being in a big metro.

164 currently in the NET rankings. Not just no, but hell no. Any additions the AAC does from this point forward need to at least accomplish one of three things: hugely successful in football, hugely successful in basketball, or a massive brand (eg. Air Force). Texas State doesn't check any of those three boxes.

Texas State does not make sense with UTSA being so close.  If they are looking to just add a school it would probably be JMU, WKU, or Liberty.

That said, I still feel that not everyone in the AAC is happy to be here, and I think there could be some movement.

I like the AAC , but if there is an opportunity to move up you take it especially if your conference peers are doing the same.

Meeting up with TXST in anything less than the PAC would signify our regression. Their athletics have gotten “better” but their bar of success has still been really low.

Not sure why you wouldn't want to have a rivalry with a team that you actually have a history of playing.  I thought that was the idea of rivalry games, and why folks have a problem with UTSA as a rival.
