Should we add Texas State to the AAC?

As in, right now?  If a school leaves and we need a replacement, I see them as a solid candidate.  But I don't think we need to add them just to add them.

They'd have been a better add than some programs. Looking at football and basketball, they've been decently competitive in both the past few years and clearly are investing. More than a couple programs out east could say.

Agreed - no need to expand the number of AAC schools.  If a member school leaves the AAC, then I think Texas State is a strong candidate to consider.  The eastern schools might not like that though ... I would imagine that they would pitch other candidates such as Western Kentucky.

Why all the love for Texas State?

Texas State brought even more of a Gameday experience than UTSA. They are a solid program. I would only add them if San Antonio departs for the PAC. I think they could be wooed with Memphis still. I think our next adds in the following order are:

James Madison (Good brand recognition)

Texas State (only if SAT leaves)

Air Force (They are in a legally solid MWC)

I don’t really understand the strong desire some have to expand. Like a couple others said, if the conference loses some teams, sure.. they’d be on the short list. But we’re already seeing the flaws in these huge conferences and not being able to play everyone on a yearly basis. Lets see what the next couple years looks like before the AAC just starts throwing invites out to anyone that shows a couple good athletic years.

I’d hope Texas State potentially joining the AAC would be in response to us joining the PAC along with UTSA.

Well the PAC needs 1 more. They want UNLV who cannot get out of the MWC. 

I could see the PAC saying during the bowl game, there are my two programs to expand: TSU and UNT. Or they could try UTSA and UNT - either way south Texas north Texas has to be interesting to them. 

I don’t think Jared does it though. We are married to the AAC. Our future rival is with UTSA or TSU both while being in the American. TSU would flourish in the American. Nicely balanced football and basketball programs. The Bobcat secretly must want the Runner to move on.

Agree on JMU, they have a strong brand, fan base, and admin. that makes the right choices.

For those same reasons I'd put App. State at #2.

They are a nationally known and respected team, I think they could easily be a Boise st. type. They have a very loyal fan base, and I'd take that over just being in a big metro.

No. We could have stayed in the Southland back in the 90's if we wanted to conference with Texas State. Aspire to more please.
