Not his decision

sir/madam, you seem to be rather close with this particular player.
No need to divulge your identify, or you can tell me to kick rocks, but how did it actually go down?    Did Pat want to keep him but was overruled from above?

Is Porter from the El Paso area?  There is no reason to go to UTEP.  I left there and never looked back after growing up there.  Hope he enjoys those nice EL Paso springs where the sky is brown from the dust being blown up.  He can blow there 50-60 mph for three days straight.  UTEP is a commuter school.   This really strange to me.

The only persons who could down vote me are people from El Paso.  Everyone else knows better.  Hopefully Cobbs and company have some health RBS this year to work with.

Note to Porter:  Do not eat at Chico Tacos.  It is the most overrated fast food restaurant in the world.  Stay away from the tail gate area and Cincy Street both can be dangerous ....lol

UTEP just signed QB Malachi Nelson, former USC/Boise St QB.

A 5-star out of HS, this is the highest rated recruit in the history of the Miner program, at the most magnetic position in the sport.

It might have swayed Porter to go to El Paso.

S Evan Jackson

P/K Seth Ford (Our punting game was horrible)

Sawyer Evans was our punter this season. Ford was the backup.

Porter played hard and he played hurt. And when our scheme and offensive line opened huge holes, he ran through them really fast.
Porter played running back like a walk-on wide receiver. As far as elusiveness and power, he was lacking.

Lol to UTEP for giving him a scholarship, but I hope he does well there. And I expect that just like last year, we will have plenty of guys on our roster way better than him to start the season.

Correct and if Ford couldn't beat our Evans, then he may be in the portal forever.

Maybe, but there is a reason Nelson is at UTEP and why he didn't stick at USC or BSU.

Not sure what we are lol'ing about. He is a productive and versatile player that can spot play in a lot of roles. He will do well at UTEP.

I don’t think UTEP is going to have much success if they are granting scholarships to guys who are only walk-ons for us. Let them fill their entire scholarship allotment with our walk-ons.

I’m sure Porter is a fine kid with a bright future. He is a below-replacement level D1 college running back.

I see a RB who wanted a scholly, didn't have a ton of options, and was probably attracted to the opportunity to play with a highly rated HS recruit that can tell him stories about Caleb and USC.  I don't think these guys are looking at their teammates through the same judgmental, over-analytical lens that we use on gmg.com

Also, these guys didn't choose some big school to ride the bench for their dream team.  So we don't have to piss on them for that, either.

I'm not pissing on anyone, but maybe Nelson, who was a 5 star coming out of high school, was overrated.  He's just looking for playing time, which I can certainly appreciate, but UTEP is heralding his signing as being the best in their history.  I'm saying is there is a reason he didn't stick at previous places and was probably doesn't have that high of a rating now.

If he was so bad at RB why would he start in front of 4 healthy scholarship RB’s? Granted trying to recruit better players is standard for every school in the country. I think UNT signed a couple high school RB’s and one RB from the portal so far. The portal player was a second string RB at Missouri State who was behind a 3rd string RB transfer from K State. No one is saying Porter was Eric Dickerson but he was obviously the best choice according to the coaches and second best was McGill who played well and is younger but he still isn’t on scholarship either. So the “walk on for us” theory doesn’t fit when your best two RB’s were walk on’s. My biggest issue was the fact he wanted to stay. You lose staring QB, best TE,WR and O lineman but your leading rusher wants to stay and you let him walk? Maybe they will find a stud RB but for the  2024 season UNT’s most productive RB’s were both walk ons. What’s that say about the coaches evaluation of scholarship players?

That’s not an entirely accurate statement when our starting RB, Price, broke his leg in the second game of the season, the returning starter, Ragsdale, was a shell of his previous self and the back up, Harris, was injured and lost for the season as well.

You previously claimed that Morris got his top two RB’s to play for free. That is also inaccurate. I asked previously and got no answer, but what is your connection to the program?  You seem to have an axe to grind.
