Never left my seat the whole game from section 208. Any idea what the relative split was for TXSt fans v NT fans?

Coming into the game and looking from the top floor of Moody parking lot in the hour or so before I went into the stadium,  it appeared TXSt fan outnumbered us 4 or 5 to one, if not more. Clearly there were more of them than us, but did anyone get a shot of the NT side of the field to discern how many of those on that side were in Green. And even with TXSt fans sitting on the West side, was it even near full? We were mostly NT fans in our section but there were quite a few TXSt fans. Then after the game, coming out of the stadium into the concession area on our side it was packed NT. But likely most TXSt on our side stayed for the post game. I am guessing 3:2 or maybe 17K:11K for the whole stadium, but I may be way off.

This was only Texas State's second ever Bowl game, after their last year's same game. 

Of course they show up...it's still new to them.  

 

It reminds me when we had 4 straight New Orleans Bowls.   We felt like we were Big 12 ready.

Also, we ended our season 1-5 and lost our starting QB and best receiver for the game to NIL and Portal.

That cost us easily 5,000 more fans.

lol I remember a couple of years ago at the Frisco Bowl against Boise State. UNT fans were getting mad at me and my friends for standing up during big plays, cheering too loud and some of the UNT fans wouldn’t even high five us. 

Instead, those fans were just sitting there with their blankets looking like they were watching an episode of the Young and Restless. 

I love my alma mater but the UNT culture needs a big kick in a$$. North Dakota State plays Montana State tomorrow for the FCS championship in Frisco and I wish we had the fraction of both those fan bases.

Mama and I took the grandkids, perfect weather for a game this time of year. We were shocked, at the low number of fans on the Press box/suites side. The question is not how did Tx St bring so many more fans, but, why we couldn't draw better?

The anecdotal evidence I heard from people was that it was "too expensive" and "not an impressive matchup" or "we are just going to lose"

Here's my take on the First Responders Bowl.  

* I thought they did a fantastic job honoring first responders from all lines of work throughout the game.  Very impressive presentation for people that deserve to be recognized.

* Location isn't terrible and Ford Stadium is fine, but I had to shower four times to remove the SMU stench.

* Concessions were pretty good although it would have been nice to know if advance that they were not accepting cash.  

* Would have been nice to have First Responder Bowl souvenir cups instead of the stupid "Pony Up" cups.  Nobody's taking those home.

* Nice taking the train, walking over and then getting out quickly.  This was managed well by whoever is in charge of getting people from the station safely across Central Expressway.

* In spite of all of the above, $100 plus for sideline seats to this bowl/matchup was ridiculous.

Yep @UNTLifer I was looking for some First Responder Bowl stuff -- I brought my wife and kids (4) and my mom to the game. They had the souvenir cups that said Pony Up and there were signs for some gift shop somewhere that had Bowl specific gear but it was mostly just SMU stuff that was easiest to see. 

I believe the FRB website mentioned card-only. Also, I just assume that everywhere is getting away from cash because everyone is in the pocket of ViSA/Mastercard now. Or should I say they are in our pocket? 

If I had it to do over, I probably stay in Denton (I came down from Missouri) instead of Dallas, so I could take the train and get off like you did. We arrived 3 hours early but by then the parking lots were full and we had to park across 75 and get the shuttle -- which apparently was news to lots of people. The parking page on the FRB website didn't mention that area but directed everyone to pay lots on campus. The parking security told us about the garage as we were being redirected. 

My family *did* like the seatbacks on the general admission seats. Hint, hint, wink, wink UNT administration.

The first two objections quickly become irrelevant without the third. This is the most likely reason.

Totally agree.  I have been asking them to

make that a standard part of the package for season tickets.  The other issue is they need to improve the internet signal.  I think DATCU may offer the worst internet signal of any stadium in the country including high schools and junior highs!

Attendance on TV was mostly TSU fans, a very poor showing for UNT. What the hell, we get out numbered by a Sunbelt team??? TSU had an enrollment of 40,600 in 2024…UNT had an enrollment of 46,900 in 2024…We are both similar size and I believe they should be admitted into the American; we could garner a great “rivalry” with them and they provide a great place to travel to in the San Marcos/San Antonio metro area. That bowl game was an exciting game… Too bad our fans base didn’t get to see it close up in the SMU stadium. I’m at my second home in Florida, that’s why I didn’t go! BTW…don’t you think the first responder bowl should have both teams logos in the end zones, that looked cheap?

I personally hope they reduce the number of bowls available next year and fix the stupid transfer calendar.  There were only a couple of bowl games this year that saw both teams come in with near full strength rosters.  Then you have the playoffs happening around these games at home sites.  Almost no bowl game matchup had any kind of normal pregame hype to get excited about.  Its another chance to see your team play, but at a premium price, likely involves some sort of travel (to not always vacation destinations) and half your starters might be missing.  It's a complete wreck.

As far as our game goes, we were lucky to not have to travel too far, but unlucky to be missing our QB and knowing we were going to see a walk-on in his place.  Turns out that walk-on played a heckuva game, but going in you expect a mismatch and blowout loss.  Not a good recipe to sell tickets.

      Transfer Portal Hits pre First Responder Bowl

      Because Morris & Cobbs believed they didn't need to. I think McGill, Harris, & Evans are returning, but who knows if Harris or Evans will even be healthy? We added Becks from MOSt, and Hawkins from HS in OK, but who knows what they bring? I don't know that McGill is a starting caliber RB in the AAC. If you think Porter should have been scholarship'd, you're second-guessing Pat. I doubt anyone around here really wants to second-guess Pat's judgement of talent. OR (and this is doubtful), Pat pushed to have Porter 'shiped, but Morris said "no". If that's the case, and Porter goes on to ball-out at UTEP while we struggle in the run game, it's another log on a growing fire under Morris' seat.

      Who did better? PAC 12 or Mountain West?

      The PAC stands a real chance of becoming the 'Big East of the West', but I think they'll still be fighting to get into the CFP each year with the rest of the G5. MWC obviously is a huge downgrade since they're the conference that got raided. The best thing they have going for them is stability. Outside of AFA and, to a lesser degree, NIU and UNLV, no one has any interest in those schools. AAC did well with the Army pickup. What happens in the next few years under the new commissioner will be important. As a conference, we've scheduled ourselves into a one bid joke like Sun Belt or CUSA. They've gotta figure out some strategy there. For football, it's hard to say we're better or worse off than last year. SMU going to the CFP was a fluke compared with the past 30 years, but I imagine they'll be a stronger program in general than they were in the AAC due to the amount of money and attention the ACC brings. At least while it lasts...

      Who did better? PAC 12 or Mountain West?

      In terms of the Pac12/MWC tweet above and what they both started with (not the legacy Pac, the WSU and OSU Pac), the Pac12 came out way ahead of the MWC. They need 1 more right? Where do they get it or do they try to add more than one. In terms of the AAC, SMU out and Army In. Love having another service academy as a conference mate and it was probably the best move the conference could make...national recognition and following. The whole Army/Navy game piece is kind of a monkey wrench. Overall, with SMU's performance and getting into the CFP this year makes the loss of SMU a bit more that the addition of Army (at least this year). Let's see how the next couple years pan out.
