MEMPHIS — The UNT men’s basketball team faces No. 21 Memphis on the road Sunday afternoon aiming to earn the program’s first road win over an AP Top 25 opponent since their 79-73 win at No. 15 Louisville on Feb. 27, 1971.

 

Tip-off Sunday from the FedEx Forum is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPN.

 

North Texas (10-3) is coming off a dramatic 78-75 conference opening win over UAB at home on Tuesday. The Mean Green made an 18-point comeback and senior Atin Wright sank a game winning buzzer beater to give UNT’s fourth straight victory.

 

Sunday they face a nationally ranked Tigers (11-3) team that played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country and has beaten three nationally ranked opponents so far and earned the nation’s most quad one and quad two wins.

 

North Texas beat Memphis, 76-66, last season in Denton in their only meeting of the year. Sunday will be the 25th all-time meeting between the two schools but the first time they’ve played in Memphis since 1983. North Texas and Memphis were both in the Missouri Valley Conference together from 1966-74. UNT left the MVC after the 1974 season and went independent.

 

After Sunday’s road game the Mean Green return home to the Super Pit on Jan. 8 to host Rice at at 8 p.m. CT.

      Chandler UVA???

      Hope I answered that for you. If they would have just sat him and let his shoulder heal a few weeks then maybe we could have had a deep passing game the last half of the season. I noticed how poorly his play became and yet everyone insisted he wasn't hurt. Mestemaker proved if we had him starting we wouldn't have fallen ass-backwards into a bowl game.

      Chandler UVA???

      I'm really struggling to understand the people on here... These aren't exact quotes, but very close, and if I needed to, I could go find each and every one. I just want to get the timeline of events, along with their perceived reactions from many on gmg.com straight: 1. (Around mid-October) "Chandler Morris is going to be the best QB we've ever had!!" 2a. (C Morris announces portal entry) "Oh no! We lost another great QB to NIL$$! We hate the system!" 2b. "Chandler was trending downward since the Tulane game and was basically a shell of himself. We won't miss him." 2c. "Haha, enjoy riding pine and losing at Virginia!" 3. "OH! We got our new QB in Reese Poffenbarger! Did you see what he did at Albany!?!?!? He's going to be great! Forget Chandler Morris!" 4a. "Mestemaker had an amazing game! He's going to be a great QB for us!!! Eric Morris is a QB Whisperer. ...Who's Reese Poffenbarger?" 4b. "We would have won the bowl game if Chandler had played!" 5. "Chandler is not our "problem" anymore!!1!" Please help me. Who is Chandler Morris?

      Great game where I believe the better team lost. My hot takes: Haggerty shooting 11-14 from the floor including that desperation 3 won't happen again. Newell's two missed FT's late, Walker's late missed layup on the fast break and Wright and Jossell's struggles kept us from winning. I think Memphis, with their athleticism, is a team that Wright will struggle against, but Jossell not hitting some open three's that are uncharacteristic of him. Lorient's missed dunk where they reversed, rightly so, the goal tending call hurt as well. Have to finish at the rim. Massie is just too out of control. As mentioned above, I would rather see his minutes go to Mason or Cotton if he isn't going to improve. Would love to see Walker stop passing up some open threes early in a possession. He has the shot. Memphis is very beatable. Their fans are garbage.
