We have literally hired a worse version of Seth Littrell. Why did Jared Mosley make this decision? Further, why is our athletic complex not already expanded? Why are our best players leaving in droves. Jared Mosley best start learning how to be the athletic director a small budget university or Jared Mosley needs to beat his feet.

You might have the board record for downvotes in a single thread.....  congrats!

Oh, I am sure. And I can promise I do not care. I point out huge glaring holes that have made us stagnant forever and not oddly at all, the fans that have allowed it don't like it being pointed out. Or they'll come out and say it's just me. It's because I posted it. If you're an alum of this university and you are fine with where we are stand then downvote me and walk away from your computer... “Hand tied behind our back”?

I assume you mean some of our players transferring out?

… I guess we were watching 2 teams during it out with a hand tied behind their backs.   They were hit by transfers as well.  Our 1-handed team just wasn’t as good as their 1-handed team though.

Not just "some of our players."  The QB runs the offense.  Beyond that, Chandler Morris had been pretty well carrying the team on his back most of the season.  Going from that to a walk-on who had only taken a few snaps (who admittedly was very impressive considering that) was not a kind of handicap the Bobcats had to deal with.

WE all care about the direction of NT Athletics or we wouldn't be on here,,,, well, except for Cougar Q, Smut2006, et al.

AS fans we want wins and something positive to show upward direction.   It's hard to find positive with many losses but we did better yesterday than most would have thought.... being 14 point dogs and losing a starting QB and receiver.

The portal needs fixed or tossed completely.  Binding contracts need to happen with players.

That must be it.  Couldn’t possibly be that it’s just a bad take.

Where exactly is it a bad take?

Are we not a mirrored program in comparison to when Littrell oversaw it? Littrell at least got us to multitude of conf champ games? Where is the improvement or regression? It's one and the same, except we are slightly less competitive.

Is it not one of the sole jobs of the athletic director to fundraise his tail off and implement those funds into athletics? Where are the numbers that dictate improvement in funding? Where are the new facilities? What is the direction...

Look, if it's a bad take please point to where I am misleading myself and I will reexamine...

I don't have much to add other than to say I agree with you. We seem to have a lot of fans that just enjoy mediocrity and moral victories.

Yes, EM has very similar records to SL, but are we not in a better conference, playing better teams?  The AAC was 6-2 in bowl games, C-USA was 1-4.  This is an important aspect that is always overlooked in the EM vs SL argument.

Also, SL didn’t have to deal with NIL or the portal (granted, it’s possible he would have handled it well, but I have my doubts).

Finally, I just don’t feel like we get our asses handed to us near as much as with SL.  I know there are those that say “a loss is a loss,” but I’d much rather lose by one score instead of three score. I looked up the numbers at one time, but the number of 21+ point losses under SL was just crazy.  In the past two seasons we have 10 conference losses, and 6 of those have been one score games.  Only twice have we been throttled in conference…last year vs SMU and this year vs UTSA.  This year we lost to 3 of the top 4 teams in the conference (Army, Tulane, and Memphis). Last year we lost to the top 4 teams in the conference (SMU, Tulane, Memphis, and UTSA).  That’s bad luck on scheduling to even have to play all of the top teams in the conference.  None of this is meant as praise for EM.  I’m just saying that I think it’s obviously better than SL.

I’ll give the rest of the argument as I honestly don’t have a clue.

PLEASE DON’T read this as an endorsement of Morris or defense of the current AD.  But facts are facts.

2 Conference Championship appearances in 7 years in a weaker CUSA.  The last appearance was with a 7-5 record.  And had CUSA not abolished divisions we would have finished 2nd place to UTSA and not gotten the chance to get beaten by them again.  Morris has just completed year 2 and he is dealing with transfer portal and NIL.  So calling the team less competitive is a very subjective metric as you are applying it comparing Morris vs Littrell.  Seth Littrell 2nd season was great.  But there was no real improvement after that season and he finessed that into 2 contract extensions and the highest head coach salary in CUSA for a while.  Those decisions were made by his predecessor.

It is absolutely ridiculous that a thread titled “Seth Littrell” exists on a UNT forum when he is now an unemployed OC whose Oklahoma team performed better after he was fired.

Right now, I think comparing Seth to Eric is like comparing Kia to Hyundai.

Maybe you give Eric a slight edge because he had to deal with the different college football landscape.

Agreed.  The comparison at this stage claiming some significant difference is laughable.  I don't know what people expected when they fired Seth a season too late.  When a sports franchise is in a 15 year trend of mediocrity and DOESN'T do anything significantly different than what they've always done, you can't expect significantly better outcomes in the short term.

That is my frustration with a lot of the fans.  Winning the Servpro Bowl game by a late field goal wouldn't change the trajectory of this program.  So why react like losing by not getting in position to kick a winning FG would?  Similarly spoiling an attempt by the 2021 UTSA team to go undefeated in the regular season meant nothing.  Yet many defended keep SL on board for a lame duck season.

The only real difference between SL and Morris so far is that it appears that Morris has a better eye for QB talent and is better at unlocking it.  Imagine if Morris got a hold of Jason Bean here.

Absolutely no reason to be bring up SL like some kind of standard here when he lost all biggest games.   Good man, very professional and smart but a mediocre coach.  MOST FBS coaches are mediocre (around the median or average performance level) or below.

At this point the Belt/CUSA/AAC is just a mirage of the same conference. We play a lot of the same teams, the best teams left the AAC and the 2nd tier AAC teams of the old AAC teams we do play aren't as good. If anything, the version of CUSA we played in is more aligned with the Belt than the current version of CUSA. Southland is catching ground on CUSA and the AAC has regressed to a very similar platform as the Belt. It's funny being a UNT fan... All the shifting around and claiming our upward trajectory ofconference achievement and all we've really been doing is going in a circle.

It's all the same. The suckitude doesn't change regardless of who is in charge.

Someone else said it best. If you are outside the P4, it's just a patch on the jersey when it comes to talent level. The main differences are the media allocations and exposure, but if we don't get our sh*t together quickly, I don't see AAC getting near the deal they got last time.

Seth would have won this game!

Are you kidding me?  Seth's teams were never competitive in a bowl game.  Don't get me wrong, I liked Seth, he just didn't want to be here.  He didn't like Denton.  What other HC would move during the football season.  He checked out after he tried to take he entire staff to K State and they said no.

NIL. Simple as that. UNT isn’t the only school to be stripped of talent every year due to NIL either. I don’t put blame on the UNT football staff or the athletic department for players leaving because UNT just doesn’t have the money to compete with the big dogs

Correct, under the current settings NT will be a stepping stone or a stop for players.  They perform here at a high level and others will pay for their services. (it is my understanding that we made a offer to Chandler, but it was not what he was getting offered by other schools)  This will continue until our fan base steps up and contributes to our collectives.  We cannot compete financially with the other programs currently.  Also, our collectives are split.  We have a football collective and a basketball collective.  Not sure many schools are doing this other than NT.  So this means our donors either have to give to both or choose which program they want to support.

We just need more alumni involved in the NIL than we currently have.  It is not like you have to give a fortune to participate.  Any monthly or yearly donation helps.

Also, most kids are not getting the money they are promised from the other schools recruiting them from NT.

It is a shame and in my opinion ruining college athletics, but we can either step up as a fanbase and donate to keep our kids here or continue to see them leave for more money.
