Just to be clear, my criticism is towards the head coach, not the kid.

Player misses a tackle.  NT fan:  that’s on the coaches.

Player misses a field goal.  NT fan: that’s on the coaches.

Player fumbles:  NT fan: that’s on the coaches.

Player commits a penalty:  NT fan:  that’s on the coaches.

Walk-on QB is our back up QB this season:  NT fan:  coaches don’t know what they’re doing; he couldn’t even start on his high school team.

Said walk-on has such a great game that the media is fawning over him:  it’s the coaches fault he threw 2 interceptions and fumbled when he was being sacked because they were asking him to do too much.

Gotta love it.

In cases that are outliers to competitive performance it falls on the player. When it's a consistent problem it falls squarely on the coaches.

I agree, but that’s not the way it’s presented here.  EVERYTHING is the coaches fault according to many on this forum.

No although I think with his speed and skill set he can get some unique field time. I think Drew has a better arm. I am a fan of allowing two guys to split some time. Jimmerson could easily get time though. His speed excites me. Trick plays in coming?

*though I’m not opposed to a package of plays for Jimmerson if he’s as advertised and if he’s not the starter.  It’s a looooong time until August though.  Our starting QB may not even be on the roster and it’s possible that neither will Mestemaker or Jimmerson.  It’s just the sad reality of college football today.

Competitive performance could have been improved with more live game reps during the season for Mestemaker, which is the fault of the coaches.   There were several times we had large leads or Chandler was gimpy and Mestemaker could have played longer.  Also for in case CM bailed on us in the portal before a Bowl...duh.

With both Rogers and CM leaving us after one season, I hope this has opened coaches eyes.   Give backup QBs and other players more live reps when able during the season.

The first few on the list are situational dependent, so I will address the last two points. You don’t think it is problematic that our backup all season was a walk on that didn’t start in high school? I sure do given that they brought in Tisdale from TCU, a Juco, and a scholarship freshman who were not better. Maybe that speaks to their ability to spot a diamond in the rough walk on, but isn’t it also an indictment of the lack of evaluation of the other three recruits?
On the final point. Yes, they were asking too much from the QB in his first start since ninth grade! For a hundred years coaches have simplified the playbook and leaned on the running game when the inexperienced backup quarterback comes in. Suddenly, Morris is smarter than all coaches in history and decides that this kid should attempt around 45 passes (41 attempts plus plays that ended up as scrambles/sacks). Completely out the game in the hands of an inexperienced 18 year old. He exceeded our expectations but of course the player is going to have turnovers! Some have said the first INT isn’t on the qb and I could agree with that. It was another stupid WR screen (that we all hate) that went wrong. So also on Morris.

I don’t hide it at all: I don’t believe in Morris. Said this from the beginning. And he has backed up my lack of faith by his actions! No defense for two years, the insane going on fourth down in our own territory in the first quarter, passing up on field goals when we just should take the points, etc. So yes, I hold him accountable for the results on the field.

lol I can't believe the bowl officials didn't paint the endzones for Mean Green/Bobcats.  They left it at Mustangs.

I'm sure $mut wanted the exposure.  Just like planting their coach in the stands watching and happens? to get a live in-game interview while our Bowl is going on.  Low class.

I don’t think it’s at all problematic that have to think the coaches were surprised that Mestemaker won the backup QB job, but thank goodness it was a meritocracy.  What would I would find problematic is if Mestemaker wasn’t given the opportunity to be the backup because he is a walk-on.

Regarding asking too much of him, don’t you think they based it on how he was playing?  The announcers mentioned that the first 15 or so plays were scripted (in no particular order) to see how things went.  When it was obvious he could handle it, they allowed him to do so.  Had he struggled early, I’m sure we would have seen more of a run game.  You view that as bad coaching and I view it as good coaching that allowed us to be competitive as a big underdog.

I agree with everything you said about the defense being bad, going for it in 4th down, passing up field goals, etc.  Those things drive me nuts, but I see it all the time in other games I watch as well.

I hold him accountable as well, but I just don’t blame him for every-single-thing that goes wrong.

Nope…all his fault.

So the coaches call the perfect play at the perfect time.  QB puts the ball right in the hands of the wide open WR…and he drops it.  That’s the coach’s fault?

Yup. His and the WR coach. Come on, man. I’m being facetious. It’s been a long and frustrating season.

Hahaha.  You never on here, especially after a loss.
