Why in the heck would we not offer him one?

Because Morris & Cobbs believed they didn't need to.

I think McGill, Harris, & Evans are returning, but who knows if Harris or Evans will even be healthy?   We added Becks from MOSt, and Hawkins from HS in OK,  but who knows what they bring?  I don't know that McGill is a starting caliber RB in the AAC.

If you think Porter should have been scholarship'd, you're second-guessing Pat.  I doubt anyone around here really wants to second-guess Pat's judgement of talent.
OR (and this is doubtful), Pat pushed to have Porter 'shiped, but Morris said "no".  If that's the case, and Porter goes on to ball-out at UTEP while we struggle in the run game, it's another log on a growing fire under Morris' seat.

Wasn’t Cobbs decision and he was only allowed 5 scholarships instead of 6. Not a high need position in Morris’s eye. What top RB would want to come to an offense and only get 10 carries on a good day

Counterpoint: This offense, in Denton, has over 2K yards at that position each of the last two seasons.  When we are not splitting the carries up - we had no primary carrier this year - one can get 1K+ yards like Adeyi did in 2023.

What are your ties to the program?  You make quite a few comments with certainty.

What about Sibley?  He was highly regarded coming out of high school.

About McGill, he had 19 fewer carries and 5 more TDs than Porter who in return averaged 6.7 yards per carry to McGill's 6.0. My amateur observation is Porter ran through some wide open holes and took several to the house but he didn't necessarily turn nothing into something. I don't recall ever thinking to myself he should have been tackled for loss but made it back to the line of scrimmage by breaking a tackle. Maybe it happened and I missed it. I'm just not worried about the position. Cobbs had earned that trust. He's always found a way to get the best out of the guys on the roster.

My biggest concern out of RBs anyways is how do they block. Don't want my QB getting blown up because the RB missed his guy or didn't pick up the blitzer. Is Porter a strong blocker?

All I know is, if you fix the OL, the running game will take care of itself. They seem to have targeted the trenches this time around, and I’m loving it. Not only have we added beef, they’ve had some playing time at their respective colleges. If it all works out, your running game just got better.

Yes and no. Vision and patience matter. We've all seen running backs frustratingly make a bad cut, not wait that split second for the right hole to open up or not have the burst needed to really hit the hole and what could have been a 10+ yard carry ends up being a 3 or 4 yard gain. Obviously the line matters but watch enough teams out there and it's obvious when an RB has those elite abilities.

We needed to get bigger in the OL...and the entire Defense.
