Ohio State (most likely) or Oregon are not Arizona State.  Texas ends their season in that Cotton Bowl game

OSU up 31-0 with less than 9 mins before the half

I wonder if we are going to get an explanation as to why targeting wasn’t called on ASU’s final regulation drive.  They likely win the game if it was called.

I didn’t think it was targeting.  Crown of helmet wasn’t used and I felt like the defender hit the receiver as non-violently as possible given the circumstances.

Doesn't have to be crown of the helmet.

The rule prohibits players from initiating forcible contact against an opposing player. That could be leading with the crown of the helmet while making forcible contact, or making forcible contact with the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet.. There are other things shoulder forearm etc I just didn't add them as it didn't apply here

Defenseless player still needs at least one indicator of targeting. Some of NCAA's examples of a defenseless player include:

A player attempting to catch a forward or backward pass, or a player who has completed the catch but hasn't had time to protect himself or or hasn't clearly become the ball-carrier yet

What’s the defender supposed to do, try to avoid the offensive player and hope he doesn’t maintain his balance and keep running?

If UNT were called for targeting on a play like that, we’d all be pissed…and rightfully so.

He’s supposed to make the hit below the head/neck area

Thoughts on the last two Longhorn scores? I feel like that's busted AzSt coverage.

It is a very terrible rule and too vague but it is the rule nonetheless.

And when he goes low and so does the offensive player, he still hits him in the head.

Agree.  Subjective, just like pass interference, roughing the passer.  At least targeting is reviewable.

So now, the final five are Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Georgia—-5 of the 15 that have won 55 of the last 60 titles.

Great sport. Not boring at all.

Everyone keep telling themselves that we are total equals with these behemoths in the B1G and SEC.

Look at the bright side, we are playing for a First Responder Bowl trophy and then we will be able to talk about it the next decade.

Two years ago we played Boise in the Frisco bowl, last night they played in the CFP.  A lot can happen in two years.  I’m excited for the direction of the program.  Friday can be a step in the right direction.

Got to win big games and not just the cupcake games

How many more UNT degrees watched their t-shirt team win today in Atlanta than will attend or watch the bowl game in Dallas? 10x? 100x?

It happens other places.  I have a friend/grad of Ohio University, and a small fan of them...but he is a huge fan of Ohio State...which he never attended.

So basically the same as most UNT alums being UT fans.

Hence why Denton has made its life mission to be Austin Jr.

Not at all.  But Texas is a football state.  I think many Texas residents would root for Texas over Arizona State on TV, just because.

That's different than paying $$ to actually dress up like a fan and root for them in person like you went there.  But if you do...like the commercial says, just know the correct cheer: "High Tide guys!  High Tide!"
