Massive opportunity and measuring stick game on Sunday. Interested to see how we stack up. Need that 2nd half UAB effort and intensity for 40 minutes @ Memphis if we’re gonna have a chance to knock them off on their home floor.

Memphis smoked FAU .  We are the best chance to beat Memphis IMHO due to our frustrating defense having the potential to cause an on court mental meltdown by Memphis.  I think they will be less volatile than last year but one can hope.

Memphis looked different level.   Very athletic, very long and quick. 

FAU was only 5/31 on 3-pointers and 32% on FGs.   

Our slow-down is our only chance.   

Memphis likes to work it inside.  Expect an early foul-out for Sissoko.

This Memphis squad could pose problems in every major conference in the country.  I honestly think they could contend in every P4 conference in hoops.  Will be an excellent chance to see just how close or far away we are from being nationally relevant in terms of ability.  This Memphis squad unlike previous ones seems to want to find a better shot than just ISO ball and get mine.  That is dangerous especially when they are more athletic than every player we have outside of maybe Lorrient.  

 

I also really hope we come up with some sort of press break before we show up Sunday.  If not this one will be over quick.

Color me skeptical.  I think you were the same one lauding Memphis last year as the best team in the league.  We all know they ended having to stand down to us.

I was, but that team had a chink in the armour they were more worried about going Pro and getting numbers (So I made that call based on talent and talent alone). 

This group really plays together and moves the ball for 1 extra pass, they have rim protectors for days, and they can absolutely fill it up from 3, crash the glass hard.  Time will tell, but I've watched this Memphis group 3/4 times now and they're the same each time.  Their full court pressure could cause us some serious issues.

      True Freshmen Receiving Seasons - Coleman, Sides, Young

      In 2009 Darius Carey had a standout true freshman season racking up 509 receiving yards. Not sure what the record was before that but here are the top true freshmen seasons in terms of receiving yards since, by my research: 378 - Miles Coleman 2024 363 - Landon Sides 2023 295 - Wyatt Young 2024 281 - Jaelon Darden 2017 253 - Carlos Harris 2012 240 - Deonte Simpson 2019 151 - Darvin Kidsy 2013 146 - Tyler Wilson 2016 97 - Rico Bussey 2016 These guys on our roster are in really good company being atop some real ballers on this list. NFL guys, 1,000 yard seasons, etc. Two takeaways here are that you can make an impact early here, especially at receiver, and that even in the transfer portal it’s still important to sign top high school talent as they seems to be the guys more likely to remain loyal when they otherwise would have good stock in the transfer portal/NIL market.

      Just because the “we’re gonna get our asses kicked by TxSt.” crowd was wrong doesn’t make it a moral victory.

      Seth Littrell

      PLEASE DON’T read this as an endorsement of Morris or defense of the current AD. But facts are facts. 2 Conference Championship appearances in 7 years in a weaker CUSA. The last appearance was with a 7-5 record. And had CUSA not abolished divisions we would have finished 2nd place to UTSA and not gotten the chance to get beaten by them again. Morris has just completed year 2 and he is dealing with transfer portal and NIL. So calling the team less competitive is a very subjective metric as you are applying it comparing Morris vs Littrell. Seth Littrell 2nd season was great. But there was no real improvement after that season and he finessed that into 2 contract extensions and the highest head coach salary in CUSA for a while. Those decisions were made by his predecessor. It is absolutely ridiculous that a thread titled “Seth Littrell” exists on a UNT forum when he is now an unemployed OC whose Oklahoma team performed better after he was fired.
