The young qb played better than expected for sure but did account for three TOs as well. Probably shouldn’t have been put in the position for the game to completely rely on his performance but that is what Morris did. 🤷🏻♂️
Really they didn’t even try. The stats back this up.
Our RBs had 12 carries for 53 yards. That’s a respectable 4.4 yards per carry. Not amazing but solid enough to take a little pressure off the passing game. By comparison, TxSt averaged 4.6 but they ended up with over 200 yards because they stuck with the run.
The running game didn’t struggle. Morris gave up on it before it could struggle because he doesn’t value the run game. Or he was so intimidated by a SunBelt team that he panicked?
The problem wasn’t the QB but rather the game plan. Or more specifically the head coach. I still don’t understand why you build your game plan around a rookie walk-on qb. They barely even tried to run the ball. The stat sheet shows 25 rushing attempts but around 6-7 of those were passing plays when the qb scrambled due to the breakdown of the pass blocking or that abortion of a WR pass with Young. Our RBs had 12 carries.
Twelve. Stupid.
