Women at Wichita State (12/29/24)

Time to see how good or bad this conference is. The women (8-4) travel north to face Wichita State (6-7) in the AAC opener. We beat the Lady Shockers in Denton last year, 72-68.

At 8-4, the women are tied with ECU for third best nonconference record in the league. Only UTSA (9-2) and UAB (9-3) are better. However, at 17-7, UNT has the best combined men's and women's basketball record of any program in the AAC.

Game is at 1pm on ESPN+.

Balanced effort through one half and we've gotten some separation. 37-23 Green. Wooten with 9, Hardaway, Lampkin, and Moore with 6.

Wichita wakes up in the third but not too much. UNT leads by 9 going in the final period: 47-38.

The ladies screw around as long as they possibly can, and get the road W 62-56 after letting their lead dwindle to 48-47.

Lampkin with another double-double, per usual.

Mean Green improve to 9-4, 1-0. Light the tower!

Did the usual with unforced errors for about 4 minutes and let the Shockers catch up.  Maintained their poise and finished strong.  Finally go to the free throw line and made those count.

Just keep winning.

NT won after going 2-17 from the three.  Maybe they need to rethink the number of treys they loft.  

Well balanced offence in a game were WSU managed to limit Lampkin shooting, but she dominated the rebounds against a bigger team.  

Good away game with Wooten having 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 asists; great game.

We are a second quarter team. If we could sustain how we played in the 2Q for more of the game (nobody plays a perfect 40), we will be back at the top of the league standings again.

Don't want to get too ahead of myself, but would love to start a streak of both men/women winning 20 games each year.

Wichita only made 9/21 free throws (42%) and 19/65 FGs (29%).

Maybe our defense limited their FGs, but free throws are not defensed.

Probably the reason they are 6-8.
