Sadly, even of those who noticed the helmet, 99.9% had no idea what it was.

Technically, that Schutt mini helmet has the wrong color green (too bright) to be a true Flying Worm helmet.

The Schutt helmets were made and sold from when the Stadium store and Bookstore carried them in 2015.  I have the full size Schutt retro helmet, plus a different mini in the correct green, and a full size original Flying Worm helmet.

If you have other Flying Worm helmets your wife wants out of your garage or closet to sell...message me!

Can we get a picture posted with the Schutt helmet and the correctly colored flying worm helmet?

This Schutt full size helmet is probably a Large or XL and this original Flying Worm a Medium, brand unknown.

Also, this 1978 version of the Flying Worm helmet (signed by Hayden Fry) was called a “glass-over”.   The paint and logo are on the underside of the plastic helmet shell.
I think this was tried maybe to protect the paint and decal from game scuffs?
It does have a little hazing and a few scuffs on the plastic shell in places, thus not as vibrant as the mini, but same color.

Huh.  The helmets on the right just look like kelly green.  The one on the left (and in your avatar) looks more like the apple green I associate with the Hayden Fry era.

As we all know, Green is a very difficult color to keep consistent and copy across fabrics, plastic, brochures, etc.  Especially in the 1970's before digital imaging and computerized color palettes.

I do think the early Fry Mean Green color (1973, 1974) may have been lighter, than the later Fry years (75-78).  The image of Kevin Adkisson is from 75 or 76, the game is vs West Texas in 1975, and my helmet is from 78.

My avatar helmet is another one I donated to the Athletic Dept.  I got it from Rick Spears, creator of the Flying Worm.  The paint and decals are on the exterior of the helmet shell.  I don't recall the year but it's probably earlier (73 or 74 seasons).  It's really not as light green as it looks in the avatar, but the sun shining directly on it really makes it look lighter doesn't it, lol.
