Morris may be the best QB coach I've ever seen. But, he is lacking as a head coach. We are witnessing way too much on the job training from him. His lack of attention to defense over the first two years has cost our program. Even as an OC he is lacking. Until he makes better in-game calls on 4th downs and adopts a real short yardage jumbo package, his offense will struggle when it gets inside the 20's.

Yet so many on here wanted us to go after Leach.  This is just a product of the Leach system.

The amount of media attention that Leach would have brought with him dwarfs Morris.  I. think some people liked that idea.

Just going to bump this post. By the way, I guess an eye roll means... "Damn, you're right."

I think we can say by now that Eric Morris is good with QBs (And I bet you that Chandler Morris will not look better next year than he did this year). That is a super important skill in coaching. However, he still needs to prove a thing or two for the whole rest, including actually on offense as well as defense, because it feels that not all parts of the offense work nearly as well as the QB, and sometimes he appears to be too focused on getting the QBs good numbers rather than having the overall offense being maximally efficient at scoring points. And that is before we talk about the defense. I am hopeful though, that he has learnt some of his lesson there and that the new hires on that side of the ball are indeed better. They don't even need to be great, just average, and EMs teams might be conference championship contenders.

Was Mestemaker’s progress a credit to EM or Brophy?

Morris’ system is a really good one.  It makes the game easier to read for QBs.  Therefore, easier for QBs to succeed.
A true Leach Air Raid, instead of the Leach/Briles hybrid Littrell was running.

Not saying Brophy isn’t a good coach.  But we should see a QB who can put up #s as long as Morris is here.

Now having those QB #s turn into more than a 6-6 record will depend on if we can find a successful defense.  TBD…

Too much talk about hoping he can find a defense.  It reveals a glaring lack of a plan to play complete team football.  Watching UNT football the last two years has felt like we have three completely disconnected units.  We have an offense that runs a QB friendly system, a defense with absolutely no identity and same for the special teams.

Kinne at least puts the offense and defense together.  Running the up tempo offense with an opportunistic, attacking defense looking for turnovers.  We should’ve been doing the same, or at least have some idea of what the whole team identity is by now, but we don’t.
