That doesn't even include Rice who lost to our little brother.

Rice might not be terrible...they did beat Arkansas State, a pretty strong middie this year with a win at Memphis.

that UNT-Dallas game might just be a lil blip...kinda like how we struggled a few years ago against Southern Nazarene...only difference I guess being that the Trailblazers didn't get the memo that they had to throw the game.

Consistency and efficiency on offense are the biggest concerns to me.  And as mentioned, no go-to shooter.  We have long periods of stagnant offense.  10 passes around the horn to end up with a rushed, unplanned shot is not a good offense.  Multiple missed layups and free throws each game are also a concern.

Fox Sports is launching a new post-season tourney this year.  Thus, the NIT is changing it's selection process to combat it. (think more Brand name teams to lure viewers and sponsors)...

AI Overview

Yes, the NIT is changing its selection process for the 2025 tournament, with the most significant change being the allocation of "exempt" bids to the top two non-NCAA Tournament teams from the ACC and SEC, essentially giving them automatic bids to counter the new College Basketball Crown tournament launched by Fox Sports; this change is primarily aimed at maintaining relevance in the evolving college basketball postseason landscape.

Key points about the new NIT selection process:
  • "Exempt" bids:
16 teams will receive "exempt" bids based on their ranking, with the ACC and SEC getting two automatic bids each.

  • Power conference focus:
The new format prioritizes the top non-NCAA Tournament teams from the major conferences, particularly the ACC and SEC, to compete with the College Basketball Crown.

  • Response to competition:
These changes are seen as a response to the new Fox Sports-backed tournament, which has secured deals with the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East.

Thanks for sharing. Not to derail the thread too much on gameday, but I actually think the new NIT selection process is better for teams like North Texas. The short version: there are only 4 guaranteed slots for power conference teams as opposed to 12 last year (at least before all of the opt outs). They've also brought back automatic eligibility to teams who won the regular season as long as they meet a metric benchmark. We would qualify in that scenario.

Now let's beat UAB.

Good points!

The main reason I posted the info was there also will be another post-season basketball Tourney.

It will be a 16-team tourney sponsored by Fox Sports and hosted at the MGM Grand garden arena in Vegas.

We have a CBI Tourney banner, and an NIT banner, maybe we need another?

I'm holding out hope for a NCAA Sweet 16 (or better) banner in the next ten years.

If Hodge can figure out how to elevate this offensive system, he could very well be the coach to take us there.

Why not try posting up Newell instead of Sissoko? WTF is Ross doing always giving Sissoko the ball down there?

He wants him to draw fouls, but it usually just ends up being a turnover or missed short shot.

And that’s the problem. Someone who’s not an offensive player trying to do certain nuances reserved for skilled players usually ends in disaster.

UAB 40 ------- NT 26

3:37 to go

The Blazers really have us figured out here.  We aren't built to win games in the 80s or 90s and that's the way this is headed.
