Honestly,  he wasn't bad. He wasn't great. It was absolutely a big step down from Morris. He earned it as a backup, but I have zero idea what his competition even looked like

I always wonder in a case where your backup quarterback has so very little experience how much you practice time he's getting with the team. I guess we'll find out soon how close he is to being ready now that he's been getting more practice.

Mestemaker backed up Duece Adams (Louisville qb) in HS.

We'll see how their college careers pan out.

This same thing happened with Jason Bean backing up Chandler Rogers in HS.

Inb4 Deuce Adams ends up at UNT in a few years.

I assume we will see more young guys jumping in the portal soon with all of these transfers. Especially on the receiving side.

Why? Those guys actually have a path to getting on the field or already are. Cash didn’t have a path to getting on the field here. No QB is going to stay to backup a guy with the same amount of remaining eligibility.

he didn't even get the chance to go broke from buying gold chains. shame.

Not many get that chance at UNT. Hence why so many leave. His opportunity to make horrid financial decisions is well on his horizon unless he is actually an FCS/D2 talent.

By all means let's not give any credit to Mestemaker.

I think it's great he won the backup job in camp and got on the field a few times.  He is 4/5 for 69 yards!

But I really hate throwing him to the Wolves, er Bobcats, and his first start in a Bowl game.  No pressure.  This is the bad side of all the NIL/Portal garbage this time of year.

50th time, Jason Bean did not backup Rogers. The coach alternated series with Rogers. I attended 3 games and followed Lake Ridge on TV during the playoffs. In fact, I don't remember Rogers playing deep in the playoffs.

We say quarterback whisperer, but the last two quarterbacks that have started for us were not developed by Morris. They were at other programs or developed there and we just use them for a season. And that’s what’s gonna happen again this year with the guy from Miami been developed by others and then we will get the benefits of six years of college. Nothing wrong with this philosophy. That’s what we’re going to do from here on out with this coaching staff.

Name the last starter for Morris that wasn't good....we'll wait
