Vito kicking UNT in the nuts again

Is it necessary to point out our 6-game bowl losing streak?  Why do fans and out AD keep supporting this guy? He obviously hates UNT.

It's the negative slant he always writes about UNT.  He could have said "looking for first Bowl win since 2014".  And many FBS schools haven't played 7 Bowls since 2014.  How about just "playing in their 8th Bowl since 2014"?

Vito's favorite word is, "host". Most of his articles include the word host, multiple times. Yet, he chose to use the actual number six, in this case. Instead of saying, "a host of bowl games", he said, "6-game bowl losing streak". Well, maybe he's giving a shout out to his readers because that's one bowl for each of them.

When teams start getting long bowl losing streaks, it's always brought up.  Remember when Notre Dame lost like a dozen bowl games in a row?  It was constantly mentioned in the press.

 

I mean it sucks, but it's fair to say.

I don't have a problem with the truth but are you really trying to compare UNT's plight to Notre Dame?  I mean they have a solid base of fans and sold out season tickets forever.  Our situation is a lot more dicey.  I just feel like there is a way to communicate that factoid in the body of the piece versus in the title so everyone can see we shat the bed.

I'm not going to crap on Brett. Personally, I think he's a nice guy. I think fans on here need to remember, Brett didn't grow up a Mean Green fan, and he didn't graduate from UNT's school of journalism either. He a guy that was hired to be a beat writer. I don't think he has much interest in spinning any North Texas story one way or another. My one knock on Brett is that in all the years he has covered UNT sports, he has never expressed any desire to hold our athletic department to standard comparable to other legit FBS universities. And I think everyone that is invested in Mean Green sports has suffered for that. I hope one day he will write stories that call out the admin, players, and fans. Honesty, is the only path to improvement for our athletics.

Vito is lost in sports writer hell.  He lives by the standard that it is the job of sport writer to be neutral.  I imagine he is as tired of covering NT as a lot of NT fans are tired of his coverage.  

He is lucky in a way that the DRC is still one of the few newspapers that still exist.  He has won a lot of awards, not only because he is a competent writer; but there is little competition.

I was channel surfing and caught Coastal Carolina getting blown out at home.  Oh I forgot this is supposed to be the “ Myrtle Beach Bowl Game”.  My initial thought was “who cares”.  I hope at least 5 of these fraud money grab bowls go away.  Maybe he resents having to write about an extremely irrelevant bowl game.

Vito gets much more traction from his tweets when he gets quote tweeted by opposing schools/fans.  Aside from griping about Vito, UNT fans don’t really give his tweets any clicks.
