it's a dub, and I'll take it...but this team needs a lot of work. our defense isn't good enough for our offense to be so bad.

I’m just not sure what to make of this squad. Like what is the ceiling?

I agree with DJ about Massie being a potential difference maker offensively.

Massie is out of control a lot.  I am at the point that I would rather see Mason in Massie's spot.

the AAC is so much worse this year...I think we're top tier in the league, but I don't know where 2nd/3rd place will fall come tournament selection time. so far, this isn't a tournament team...maybe another NIT bid, but that's a statement made without my doing much looking at those 50-80-ish programs.

again, I love that we have a real identity...I love that we clawed back into this game with a 10+ minute scoring drought...but until we have something that approaches offensive sets that are more than just 10-20 second iso-post backdowns we're gonna be little more than a top 50 NET team/12-seed/NIT regular. the next step is adding an offensive system to this solid defensive system

Glad for win especially since just last week I was in Appalachian’s arena for niece’s graduation. I figured the line was too generous, though it would have been achieved by more intently slowing the game down after building a solid second half lead. I expect our team will improve. They will need it for conference play.

Massie can be a bulk scorer at times.  He had 7 points in 17 minutes.

I'd rather give Newell's minutes to Mason.   He only had 3 points in a pedestrian 20 minutes.

Newell is also 6-9 but had zero rebounds.  Mason is 6-6 but super athletic like Lorient.  Put the super athletes on the floor!

Don't we have one or two guys on staff that can add a few more wrinkles to our offense?  How freakin hard can it be to juice this offense up even a little?

Purely a guess but maybe those that could provide offense haven't shown equivalent defensive skills in practice.
But I agree, we need some kind of adjustment.

I was referring to our coaches.

sure. let's do it. I just think something needs to change if this team wants to legitimately compete for the conference title. it's frustrating that RH seems pretty unwilling to even tinker with line-ups through the non-con. I think there's some real hubris in thinking you've got the rotation dialed from day one when you're working in 75% of a new team.

I think Hodge is 100% willing to go with his best defensive unit offense be danged than to allow a player on the court who causes even a tiny chink in the defensive armor.  No source or info just the feel I've gotten watching him as he has stepped into his HC role

I know in college football players can participate in 4 games and keep their redshirt.

What participation is allowed in basketball to keep a redshirt?

Our offense is still stagnant.  The defense keeps us in games but eventually our lack of offense will bite us...again.

As mentioned by CBL, I don't understand why more bench players weren't used in rotations to see what/who is the most effective offensive combination during OOC  games.   I doubt many bench-sitters (not named Stone or Allo) will stay around.

Currently a single game of participation rules out the redshirt in college basketball unless its a medical redshirt.  They are discussing changing that this year along with other rule changes through the NCAA.  I think the 33% rule would be good in other sports just like football receives but we will see.
